The Tennessee Department of AgricultureNashville, TN – A “Pick Tennessee” mobile app is now available which can find and then map the way to locally grown farm products, farms and farmers markets. The free app, downloadable from both iTunes for Apple products and from Google Play for Android devices, is the latest advancement of Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Pick Tennessee Products promotion.

Pick TennesseeNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has unveiled a new look and improved features for the popular Pick Tennessee Products consumer site. A simplified, phone friendly logo icon and increased Web capabilities are part of a push by the department to maximize its consumer and producer services.

Ensuring full digital access, including “responsive” Web design, with each page conforming to the shape of whatever type of screen displays it, is part of a larger process leading to the launch of a mobile app in early 2014.

The Tennessee Department of AgricultureNashville, TN – “We grew 134 varieties of pumpkins and gourds this year, plus the prettiest mums we’ve had yet,” said Andrew Dixon, farmer and operator of Granddaddy’s Farm near Nashville. “The rain didn’t hold us back. In fact, the corn maze is taller and greener, and everything is better than it’s been since we’ve opened the place—I think even the racing pigs run faster!”

American Heart Association says Electromagnets guide heart device implantation, reduce radiation exposure

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – Heart failure patients and others who need implanted cardiac devices to help their heart beat regularly may benefit from a new technology to guide their implantation procedure.

It uses electromagnets, which work like a GPS tracking system, instead of radiation-based imaging, researchers reported in the American Heart Association journal Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Inks Deal with Motorola Solutions, Inc.

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott today announced an agreement with Motorola Solutions, Inc., to begin implementing the first phase of a statewide radio system that will enhance the efficiency, safety and service of troopers across the state.

The department secured $39.2 million dollars from the Tennessee General Assembly for phase I of the project, which will be utilized for radio upgrades in the THP Chattanooga, Fall Branch and Knoxville districts. [Read more]
