Tennessee Free Hunting Day happens Saturday, Squirrel Season to Open

Nashville, TN – Tennessee residents are allowed to hunt without a license on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020, which coincides with the opening day of squirrel season.
Free Hunting Day is an event the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency annually provides in hopes of increasing interest in hunting. Squirrel hunting is one of Tennessee’s oldest and favorite traditions. The day serves as an excellent opportunity for persons to experience the enjoyment of the sport.

TWRA announces Squirrel Season Opens, Tennessee’s 2018 Free Hunting Day is August 25th

Nashville, TN – Tennessee residents are allowed to hunt without a license on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 which coincides with the opening day of squirrel season says the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
In addition to the opening of squirrel season, it will be the middle day of the statewide three-day archery private lands only/antlered only deer season. This is the first year for this type of deer season.

TWRA re-opens Catoosa WMA for Public Access

Crossville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced that Catoosa Wildlife Management Area located in Cumberland, Morgan, and Fentress counties re-opened to public access Saturday, August 20th, 2011.
Catoosa WMA has been officially closed since August 8th, 2011 due to vandalism in the form of nails, spikes, and nail boards placed in secondary roads and fields across the area. The WMA was closed for public safety concerns related to the vandalism.
Throughout the 12-day closure, TWRA personnel have worked to find and remove the dangerous materials. As a result of the cleanup effort, TWRA officials have made significant efforts to find and remove the hazardous material and now are reasonably assured that the WMA is safe again for public use.
