Thrive: Living Well in Tennessee is now available at public libraries, city and county health departments, state parks and other locations, and in a digital version for online viewing.
TWRA announces 2013-14 Winter Trout Stocking Schedule

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced its 2013-14. TWRA plans to release approximately 90,000 rainbow trout into Tennessee waters from December through March.
The program provides numerous close to home trout fishing opportunities for anglers during the winter months. These fisheries also provide a great opportunity to introduce children or first-time anglers to fishing. [Read more]
TWRA to auction off Fifth Permit for 2012 Elk Hunt on Ebay July 19th-29th

Nashville, TN – The fifth permit for participation in Tennessee’s fourth managed elk hunt will be awarded to the successful bidder in an eBay auction to be held from July 19th-29th. Proceeds from the auction benefit the state’s elk restoration program.
Since the elk hunt was implemented in 2009, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has donated a permit to a Non-Governmental Organization to join four others who were selected from a computer drawing. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation (TWRF) is the recipient of this year’s donated special take permit. [Read more]

Nashville, TN – Country music artist Darryl Worley is continuing his efforts as an ambassador for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and other state organizations across the country who manage the nation’s natural resources and their efforts to aid those affected by recent natural disasters.
What began as a simple idea to use the song to promote fishing grew to include a music video and a national fund-raising effort.

TWRA annouces Winners for 2012 Elk Hunt

Nashville, TN – Four persons have won the right to participate in Tennessee’s fourth-ever managed elk hunt to be held in October at North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area. The winners were announced Thursday (June 14th) during the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission Wildlife Management Committee meeting at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Region II Ray Bell Building.
The four winners, all Tennessee residents, were selected in a computer drawing from 5,799 applicants for the elk hunt scheduled October 15th-19th at the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area. [Read more]
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency seeks help in 2012 Bald Eagle Nest Survey

Nashville, TN – Scott Somershoe, ornithologist for The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, has announced the agency is looking for bald eagle nests across Tennessee in 2012.
TWRA, in partner with other government agencies and private citizens, have been monitoring bald eagle nests across the state for many years; however there are gaps in monitoring as birds have moved nests and many new nests are appearing annually. [Read more]

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Inks Deal with Motorola Solutions, Inc.

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott today announced an agreement with Motorola Solutions, Inc., to begin implementing the first phase of a statewide radio system that will enhance the efficiency, safety and service of troopers across the state.
The department secured $39.2 million dollars from the Tennessee General Assembly for phase I of the project, which will be utilized for radio upgrades in the THP Chattanooga, Fall Branch and Knoxville districts. [Read more]

Buchanan, TN – Prevacid pro Dan Morehead of Paducah, KY, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 19 pounds, 5 ounces Sunday to win the EverStart Series Championship on Kentucky Lake with a four day total of 20 bass weighing 61 pounds, 4 ounces. For his victory, Morehead earned $50,000 plus a 198VX Ranger boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard motor.

Jessica Hibler Crowned Miss Tennessee USA 2012

Clarksville, TN – Miss Tennessee USA was crowned tonight, making her Tennessee’s next hopeful in the 2012 Miss USA pageant. Jessica Hibler of Nashville accepted her new crown from the reigning Miss Tennessee USA, Ashley Durham of Memphis. Durham was also the first runner up in the Miss USA pageant held this past June in Las Vegas.
Runners-up for the Miss Tennessee USA pageant were Brandy Whaley of Antioch (fourth) Rachael Todd of Nashville (third), LaShan Mathews of Murfreesboro (second) and Tara Zolfagharbik of Paris (first).
