U.S. Gasoline Demand Jumps as Supply Declines on the Week, Gas Price Average Jumps Up Two Cents

AAATampa, FL – As U.S. gasoline demand strengthened and supply declined, the national gas price average jumped two-cents on the week to land at $2.86.

According to the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) report, total crude inventories fell on the week and now register at 405 million bbl, which is 80 million bbl lower than levels at the same time last year.

July Gas Prices are Proving Volatile

AAATampa, FL – Volatility is the trend for July gas prices as the rate for crude oil rises and drops amid lingering geopolitical concerns. In the U.S., the first half of the month saw pump prices increase from $2.85 to $2.89, while the second half is proving cheaper with the national gas price average down to $2.84 today.

Gas Prices Trend Cheaper, but Increases are Likely Looming

AAATampa, FL – On the week, the national gas price average is two cents cheaper at $2.90. Today’s national average is only one cent more expensive than a month ago, but 60 cents more expensive than a year ago.

Nationwide, 44 states have less expensive or steady gas price averages compared to last Monday.

However, the cheaper trend may be reversing. Gasoline demand spiked in the latest Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) report, in fact setting a new all-time record at 9.88 million b/d for the week ending June 8th.

National Gas Price Average Falls For First Time in Three Months

AAATampa, FL – Dropping by two-cents on the week, the national gas price average is $2.95 reports AAA. This is the first time there has been a decrease in the national average since mid-March.

The drop, albeit it small, follows the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) report showing consistently strong demand although it is running slightly below (100,000 b/d less) the same week last year.

AAA says Gas Prices Packing Punch to Motorists

AAATampa, FL – At $2.81, the national gas price average is 45 cents more expensive than a year ago. With the unofficial kick-off to summer just weeks away, prices are expected to increase, but a tapering trend may be emerging.

“If this past week’s moderate increases are any indicator of what’s to come, the fast rate at which gas prices were increasing may be slowing down,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “On the week, the national average held steady and 19 state averages remained flat or saw decreases in gas prices. Despite this stability, drivers on the West Coast and in Idaho, Utah and Pennsylvania are paying $3.00/gallon.”

AAA says Pump Prices Cheaper on the Week for Majority of the Country

AAATampa, FL – At $2.58, the national gas price average has decreased for the first time week-over-week this year. Today’s price is 3 cent less than last week, 6 cents more than a month ago and 30 cents more than a year ago. Motorists can find gas for $2.50 or less at 53 percent of gas stations across the country.

“Gas price averages are less expensive for 78 percent of states compared to last Monday. Motorist filling up in the Midwest, South and East Coast are most likely to see the positive change at the pump,” said Jeanette Casselano.

AAATampa  Bay, FL – At $2.58, the national gas price is four cents more expensive on the week. Across the country, motorists in 47 states and Washington, D.C. have seen pump prices increase as much as 9 cents with the Great Lakes, Central, South and Southeastern states seeing the largest increases.

AAATampa, FL – At $2.49, the national gas price average is the most expensive seen at the start of a new year since 2014, when gas prices were more than $3.00/gallon. High travel volumes over the holidays drove gas prices up five cents on the week.

Gas Prices but nearly 20 Cents More Expensive on the Year

AAATampa,  FL – On the week, the national average dropped three cents to $2.43. Motorists in the Midwest are seeing the largest drops at the pump, by as much as 10 cents.

However, two states are paying more on the week: Indiana (+3 cents) and Hawaii (+1 cent). The national gas price average is 12 cents cheaper than one month ago, but that’s not the case compared to this time last year.

“More than 97 million Americans will begin to hit the road this week for the holidays – the most ever on record,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.

AAA reports Gas Prices and Consumer Demand on Steady Decline

AAATampa, FL – The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dropped two cents on the week to $2.46. East Coast and Midwest states are seeing the largest drops in gas prices – as much as six cents – in the last week.

While a small number of states, who historically experience ongoing volatility, are seeing increases: Indiana (+11 cents), Michigan (+8 cents), Ohio (+4 cents), Hawaii (+1 cent) and Illinois (+1 cent).
