Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRAChattanooga, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission held its July meeting and among the agenda items, heard a report on a chronic wasting disease (CWD) plan, a report on a long-range deer strategic plan, and a reservoir fisheries habitat update.

The TFWC was holding its first meeting since May and returning to the Scenic City for the first time since October 2015.

Greg Wathen, of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency director’s office, gave a report to the commission on the progress of the TWRA chronic wasting disease (CWD) Response Plan draft. The plan is divided into four areas.

TWRA reports Genetic Testing Confirms New Tennessee, Possible World Record Black Crappie

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has verified through genetic testing that the crappie caught from a Loudon county pond last month is indeed a black crappie and the new state record.

Lionel “Jam” Ferguson from the East Tennessee community of Philadelphia landed the 5 pounds, 7.68 ounces trophy fish on May 15th. After a fisheries biologist visually identified the species and weight was verified with certified scales, a small fin clip was sent for genetic testing to confirm that the fish was not a hybrid.

Three Tennessee State Parks Among the Top 100 Family Friendly Fishing and Boating Destinations

Paris Landing, Pickwick Landing and Tims Ford Recognized by Take Me Fishing

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Paris Landing State Park, Pickwick Landing State Park and Tims Ford State Park were listed among the Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Boat and Fish in the U.S., according to Take Me Fishing, whose first Top 100 list was released this month. Park and recreation areas in 24 states were represented in the Top 100.

“We are thrilled to have three of our great Tennessee State Parks on the list of family-friendly boating and fishing destinations in the country,” Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill said.
