FDA Issues Emergency Use Authorization for First COVID-19 Vaccine

Silver Spring, MD – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first emergency use authorization (EUA) for a vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in individuals 16 years of age and older.
The emergency use authorization allows the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the United States.
AAA reports Gas Prices fall heading into Thanksgiving Holiday

Washington, D.C. – At $2.10, this Thanksgiving’s national gas price average is shaping up to be the lowest since 2015. The holiday weekend average that year was a nickel cheaper at $2.05.
“Typically, cheaper gas prices are an incentive for people to travel during a holiday weekend, but that is just not the case this year,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.

On November 20th, the FDA approved an abbreviated new drug application for succinylcholine chloride injection USP 200 mg/10 mL, which is indicated, in addition to general anesthesia, to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.

Tennessee to be part of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Pilot Program

Nashville, TN – Tennessee has been selected as one of four states to participate in a pilot program for delivery of the Pfizer Inc. COVID-19 Coronavirus vaccine now under development.
This program is designed to address distribution challenges posed by requirements for ultra-cold storage of the vaccine.
Tennessee Department of Health releases Infrastructure Plan for COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) has announced the state’s infrastructure plan for distribution of COVID-19 Coronavirus vaccines once they become available.
TDH in coordination with other state and local agencies submitted an initial draft of the COVID-19 Vaccination Plan for Tennessee to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on October 16th, 2020.
Lamar Alexander says FDA-Approved COVID-19 Vaccine is the Way to Stop More Deaths

Washington, D.C. – Senate health committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today said “an FDA-approved COVID-19 Coronavirus vaccine is the way to stop more deaths, while the unpleasant alternative is to let the epidemic run its course until everyone is either killed or recovered,” during this morning’s committee hearing on the role of vaccines in preventing infectious disease outbreaks and protecting public health.
“What is new about dealing with epidemics is modern medicine, including the ability to diagnose the disease and then to create treatments to make it easier to recover,” Alexander continued. “But the true miracle of modern medicine is vaccines, which can prevent humans from acquiring the disease at all.”
