Asian Carp update presented at December TFWC Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRAHardeman County, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission received an update on Asian carp among its agenda items at the final meeting of the calendar year which concluded Friday.

The TFWC met for the first time at Lone Oaks Farm in Hardeman County near Bolivar and Middleton, which is operated by the University of Tennessee.

Frank Fiss, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Fisheries Division chief, presented an update on Asian carp.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission approves 2012-13 Hunting Seasons

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission set the state’s 2012-13 hunting seasons during its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Ray Bell Region II Building.

Among the changes, Tennessee sportsmen will see an increase in deer and bear harvest opportunities.

In regard to white-tailed deer hunting, the TWRC approved the TWRA’s proposal to increase the antlerless archery season bag limit in Unit B to four deer per season. [Read more]

TWRA re-opens Catoosa WMA for Public Access

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRACrossville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced that Catoosa Wildlife Management Area located in Cumberland, Morgan, and Fentress counties re-opened to public access Saturday, August 20th, 2011.

Catoosa WMA has been officially closed since August 8th, 2011 due to vandalism in the form of nails, spikes, and nail boards placed in secondary roads and fields across the area. The WMA was closed for public safety concerns related to the vandalism.

Throughout the 12-day closure, TWRA personnel have worked to find and remove the dangerous materials. As a result of the cleanup effort, TWRA officials have made significant efforts to find and remove the hazardous material and now are reasonably assured that the WMA is safe again for public use. TWRC to set 2011-12 Waterfowl Hunting Season at August Meeting to be held in Kingsport

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The 2011-12 Tennessee waterfowl hunting seasons will be set at the August meeting of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission. The meeting will be held August 24th-25th (Wednesday-Thursday) at the Meadow View Conference Center in Kingsport.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s proposals for 2011-12 will be presented to the commission. The proposals list very few changes in regard to the agency’s waterfowl recommendations with the exception of minor date adjustments to accommodate calendar changes. [Read more]

TWRA to close Catoosa WMA for Safety Concerns

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced that Catoosa Wildlife Management Area located in Cumberland, Morgan, and Fentress counties will be closed to all public access effective Monday, August 8th, 2011. TWRA officials believe this closure is necessary to ensure the safety of visitors using Catoosa WMA and agency employees working in the area.

Since late June, vandals have placed nails, spikes, and nail-boards in fields, secondary roads, and trails on the WMA. TWRA officials believe this vandalism may be a reaction by a small group of individuals dissatisfied with recent changes in the management of wild hog populations on Catoosa. [Read more]
