TWRA reports Labor Day Weekend sees One Boating Fatality

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports there was one boating-related fatality over the 2021 Labor Day holiday period from September 3rd-6th, 2021. 

The fatal incident occurred Saturday evening on Percy Priest Lake in Rutherford County. Jose Alatorre and a 6-year-old girl, believed to be his daughter, were reported to have fallen off a jet ski.

Tennessee’s Unified Command Continues to Focus on Rural Counties with COVID-19 Testing Events this Weekend

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s Unified Command Group will open drive through COVID-19 Coronavirus testing sites in each of Tennessee’s grand divisions on Saturday, November 7th, 2020, in its ongoing effort to curb rising rural cases.

Saturday’s COVID-19 Coronavirus testing is free to those who want to receive a test. Testing sites will be open from 9 a.m. to noon, local time, and will stay open until all individuals in the vehicle line have received tests. The testing locations are as follows:

President Donald J. Trump Approves Tennessee Disaster Declaration

The White HouseWashington, D.C. – On Friday, April 24th, 2020, U.S. President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Tennessee and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding from April 12th to April 13th, 2020.

The President’s action makes Federal funding available to affected individuals in Bradley County and Hamilton County.

TDOE Releases TNReady Results for 2019

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN –  The Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn has released the TNReady assessment results which indicates that students across the state are performing better in almost all math subjects. 

The TNReady scores also show that more than half the schools in Tennessee – 56 percent – improved their growth scores (TVAAS scores) from the previous year, with 41 percent of all schools earning a level 4 or 5 TVAAS rating which measures year-to-year growth.

TWRA launches New Elk Cam from Hatfield Knob Viewing Area

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s has launched a new elk cam located at the Hatfield Knob Viewing Area on North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area.

The new cam has undergone testing and is now active for public viewing. A link to the elk cam is located on the TWRA website. It can be viewed on a cell phone, personal or desktop computer. The elk cam, which is operated by solar power, will be live during daylight hours.

AT&T Expands High-Speed Internet in Communities across Tennessee

AT&TNashville, TNAT&T* has expanded internet access in communities throughout Tennessee to better serve those in rural and urban areas alike.

As part of our FCC Connect America Fund commitment, AT&T has deployed high-speed internet service to rural and underserved locations in parts of 51 counties serving more than 37,000 Tennessee locations.

For much of this rural deployment, AT&T is using its Fixed Wireless Internet service.  Launched in Tennessee in June of 2017, this innovative service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps to homes and small businesses.

1,451 Tennesseans Die from Drug Overdoses in 2015

Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Health data show 1,451 people died from drug overdoses in the state in 2015.

This is the highest annual number of overdose deaths recorded in state history and brings the five-year total for Tennessee to 6,036 lives lost. That figure is approximately the equivalent of every person on 40 mid-size jet liners dying.

TFWC announces Elk Hunt Winners, Commercial Fishing Proposals at August Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRACrossville, TN – The participants in Tennessee’s 2016 elk hunt were announced at the August meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission which concluded Friday. The TFWC was also presented a preview of next year’s 2016-17 proposed commercial fishing regulations, and update on recommendations for cervid deer carcass importations as they pertain to states with chronic wasting disease (CWD).

Tennessee began its elk hunt in 2009 with the participants selected from a computer draw. At its May meeting, the TFWC approved the addition of an archery only elk hunt which will be held October 3rd-7th.

Tennessee Hunting Seasons set at May Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRATullahoma, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the state’s 2016-17 hunting seasons at its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Arnold Air Force Base Gossick Leadership Center.

The state’s hunting seasons are annually established each year during the TWFC’s May meeting. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency made its recommendations during the April meeting. Additional recommendations were made by commission members.
