Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health is working with the United States Department of Agriculture to help prevent rabies by distributing oral rabies vaccine for wild raccoons along Tennessee’s borders with Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

The annual baiting program administered by USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Wildlife Services, will begin in Tennessee in October, 2018.

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – Tennessee County unemployment rates released by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) show unemployment remained below 5 percent in an overwhelming majority of the state’s 95 counties during December 2017.

Unemployment in Paris-Henry County dropped from 4.2 percent in November to 4.0 percent in December and is down 2.3 percent from December 2016’s unemployment rate of 6.3 percent.

This is the highest annual number of overdose deaths recorded in state history and brings the five-year total for Tennessee to 6,036 lives lost. That figure is approximately the equivalent of every person on 40 mid-size jet liners dying.

2015 Peregrine Falcon Take Permit Winners Announced by TWRA

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Two 2015 permits for the trapping of a peregrine falcon to be used in falconry has been awarded, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced.

Bradley County resident Doug Boucher and Greg Seaton of North Little Rock, AR are the winners of the Tennessee Peregrine Falcon Permit Draw. The drawing was held in Nashville in late August.

Only general or master class resident and non-resident falconers were eligible to participate in the drawing.
