Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) Consumer Affairs Division is reminding shoppers to make sure they protect their personal information when shopping from mobile devices this holiday season.
“Online shopping is becoming increasingly convenient due to a rise in mobile app use and the introduction of mobile wallets,” says says TDCI Deputy Commissioner Bill Giannini. “Unfortunately, with that ease comes a concern for the security of personal financial information.”

Nashville, TN – The paperwork may appear as if it comes from a government agency, but the solicitations that are landing in mailboxes across Tennessee are from private companies angling to charge whopping prices to consumers for relatively inexpensive state services.

Nashville, TN – Your phone rings, you check the caller’s number and discover the number dialing your phone belongs to you.
This unusual scenario isn’t your phone’s fault. Instead, it’s a ploy known as ID Spoofing, and it’s a trick perpetrated by criminals using Caller ID cloaking technology to mask their real phone numbers.
After disguising their real numbers, scammers can cause a consumer’s own phone number (or the phone number of a loved one) to appear on your phone’s Caller ID. [Read more]

Nashville, TN – After a very wet summer, it’s important for Tennesseans to make sure that any needed home repairs are serviced by a licensed contractor.
“We encourage individuals to vet contractors through verify.tn.gov or through the Board for Licensing Contractors before signing on the dotted line,” said the Regulatory Boards Assistant Commissioner Bill Giannini. “Never pay cash and always, ALWAYS, verify before you pay any money!”
