AAA reports Gas Prices Level Out During the Weekend

Tampa, FL – Gas prices seemed to find level ground over the weekend after increasing for more than two weeks. Before the weekend, gas prices rose an average of 12 cents in 19 days, nationwide; 13 cents in 14 days, in Florida; 13 cents in 18 days, in Georgia; and 14 cents in 20 days, in Tennessee.
“Gas prices rose the wave of rising oil prices last week, pushing pump prices slightly higher in some regions before eventually stalling out over the weekend,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA The Auto Club Group.

Tennessee State Veterinarian Issues Poultry Health Advisory

Nashville, TN – The state veterinarian for Tennessee is urging all poultry owners to take extra precautions to protect their flocks from illness.
“We are working to protect the poultry population from exposure to avian influenza,” State Veterinarian Dr. Charles Hatcher said. “The best way to protect your birds is to increase your biosecurity measures and particularly, to keep your birds at home for now.”
H7N9 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) detected at a commercial poultry farm in Lincoln County, Tennessee on March 4th.
White County Quarantined For Emerald Ash Borer

Nashville, TN – White County is the latest in Tennessee to be quarantined for an invasive pest targeting ash trees.
Officials have detected Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in the eastern section of White County. An adult EAB beetle was recently captured in a trap near Old Railroad Grade Road. With this discovery, White County joins 48 other counties in quarantine with a prohibition on the movement of ash trees and ash tree products.

Tennessee Department of Agriculture reports Marion County Quarantined for Emerald Ash Borer

Nashville, TN – An infestation of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has inched further across the state.
Officials have detected EAB in the Kimball area of Marion County, prompting a county-wide quarantine prohibiting the movement of ash trees and ash tree products.
This quarantine has now reached 48 counties in Tennessee. EAB is a destructive forest pest that was introduced from Asia into the United States in the 1990s.

Chikungunya Virus Disease Spread by Bites
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health is reminding vacation and business travelers about the importance of protecting themselves from mosquitoes that may transmit chikungunya virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue.
The first confirmed case of chikungunya virus disease in Tennessee occurred in 2014; since then 42 additional cases have been documented, all involving travel outside the state.

Tennessee Department of Agriculture reports seven additional Counties quarantined for Emerald ash borer

Nashville, TN – A quarantine for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive insect that destroys ash trees, has been expanded to seven additional counties in Middle and East Tennessee. Clay, Fentress, Macon, Morgan, Overton, Pickett, and Rhea counties have been added to the list of areas restricted for the movement of ash trees and ash tree products.
This brings the total number of Tennessee counties under a state and federal EAB quarantine to 34.

Tennessee Department of Health is raising Awareness about Chikungunya

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health is investigating the first potential cases of chikungunya in the state. Multiple people from Tennessee recently traveled to the Caribbean, where the illness is now a widespread epidemic with over 100,000 suspected cases.
Some of the recent travelers from Tennessee now have symptoms of the illness.
Chikungunya is transmitted by daytime biting mosquitoes.
