American Heart Association Says New Dietary Guidelines Will Help Establish a Healthier Roadmap for Americans

Dallas, TX – The American Heart Association (AHA) applauds the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) on the release of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
“The new federal dietary guidelines give Americans more flexibility in their diets without sacrificing their health. By providing a valuable source of nutrition information, the standards are part of a roadmap to help build a ‘culture of health’ in America. This healthier culture will help reduce our risk for heart disease and stroke – the two leading causes of death in the world,” said Mark Creager, M.D., president of the American Heart Association.

Yonkers, NY – The Great Recession of 2007 caused the once-prolific American shopper to go into a prolonged scrimp mode. Now, some seven years later – and more than 5 years after the recession officially ended — the tide has turned, according to a groundbreaking Consumer Reports study.
A nationally representative survey of 1,006 adult Americans conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center revealed that people are now in the market for major purchases like homes, cars, and appliances – and that they plan to spend even more money in the coming year. [Read more]
American Heart Association releases Spanish-language Hands Only CPR training video

Nashville, TN – The American Heart Association has just released its lifesaving 2012 Hands-Only CPR training video in a new Spanish-language version, and is encouraging healthcare providers and area leaders to make it widely available to their Hispanic communities.
Nearly 400,000 Americans suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest every year, and almost 90 percent of them die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene.
