Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – To combat summer learning loss in Tennessee and support student learning in the home, Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) today announced the second year of its K-3 Book Delivery program to deliver 500,000 books to teachers and students statewide, including every rising first-grader in Tennessee.

110,000 teachers and students statewide, including every rising first grader, will benefit from the program as part of GELF’s “Stop the Slide!” campaign to combat summer learning loss.

Tennesseans Now Able to Use SNAP Benefits to Buy Food Online

Tennessee Department of Human ServicesNashville, TN – Tennesseans who utilize the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to feed their families now have a new resource to help during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. 

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved Tennessee for a pilot program that allows SNAP benefits to be used to buy food online with Amazon and Walmart.

AAA says this Holiday Season Shoppers Plan to Spend More on Gifts

AAATampa, FL – Retailers are preparing for a busy holiday shopping season as ninety-one percent of consumers plan on purchasing gifts this year, according to a recent AAA Consumer Pulse™ Holiday Shopping survey.

Nearly one in three shoppers (28%) will wait until the final two weeks of November to purchase their gifts. Twenty-four percent of people began their holiday shopping before November, taking advantage of early retail discounts, while the remaining consumers (29%) will wait until December to purchase gifts. Proposes free community and technology college education to every graduating senior

State of TennesseeNashville, TN – During his fourth annual State of the State address before the General Assembly, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam tonight introduced the “Tennessee Promise.”

The historic proposal commits to providing on a continuing basis two years of community college or a college of applied technology (TCAT) absolutely free of tuition and fees to graduating high school seniors.

“Through the Tennessee Promise, we are fighting the rising cost of higher education, and we are raising our expectations as a state,” Haslam said. “We are committed to making a clear statement to families that education beyond high school is a priority in the state of Tennessee.”
