{"id":8873,"date":"2014-08-09T08:00:04","date_gmt":"2014-08-09T13:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=8873"},"modified":"2014-08-08T23:36:42","modified_gmt":"2014-08-09T04:36:42","slug":"shopsmart-survey-reveals-28-percent-of-women-cant-be-bothered-with-coupons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2014\/08\/09\/shopsmart-survey-reveals-28-percent-of-women-cant-be-bothered-with-coupons\/","title":{"rendered":"ShopSmart Survey Reveals 28 Percent of Women Can\u2019t be Bothered With Coupons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Plus, twelve alternative ways to save at the supermarket without the hassle of using coupons<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-54024\" title=\"ShopSmart Magazine\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/ShopSmart-logo.jpg\" alt=\"ShopSmart Magazine\" width=\"240\" height=\"46\" \/><strong>Yonkers, NY<\/strong> &#8211; In a new national survey about shopping and saving on groceries featured in the September 2014 issue of <em>ShopSmart, <\/em>from Consumer Reports<em>, <\/em>28 percent of women said they can\u2019t be bothered with coupons, and 15 percent called them a \u201cnecessary evil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So for those who don\u2019t like dealing with coupons, <em>ShopSmart<\/em> has identified 12 coupon-free strategies that can help shoppers save at the supermarket \u2013 as a price scan by secret shoppers revealed it\u2019s all about where consumers shop, and what they buy.<!--more--><em>ShopSmart\u2019s <\/em>money-saving tips include using \u201cloyalty cards\u201d regularly, trying more store brands, hitting the deli counter for meats and cheeses \u2013 which can save shoppers up to 30 percent \u2013 and shopping at big-box stores and dollar stores.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf coupons just aren\u2019t your thing, don\u2019t worry because there are lots of other smart ways to shop,\u201d said Lisa Lee Freeman, editor-in-chief of <em>ShopSmart<\/em>. \u201cAnd, if you\u2019re among the 10 percent of women who are self-described coupon queens, keep it up!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>ShopSmart <\/em>asked 1,008 adult women across the U.S. how they like to shop and save on groceries. Findings suggest women are still interested in saving a dollar when hitting the supermarket \u2013 82 percent say they make a budget for their grocery shopping and stick to it.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that to save money, women are buying groceries <em>more often<\/em> at dollar stores (26%), megastores (24%) and farmers markets (23%) and <em>less often<\/em> at convenience stores (35%), drugstores (24%), warehouse clubs (23%) and specialty stores (20%).<\/p>\n<p>For the additional survey findings, the full list of tips, apps, and websites to find deals, check out the September 2014 issue of <em>ShopSmart<\/em>, on newsstands now.<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"center\">Online Subscription Services<\/h3>\n<p>Online subscription services not only save shoppers a trip to the grocery store, but also often come with a discount or other cool extras. <em>ShopSmart<\/em> recommends the following sites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FullCircle.com<\/strong> Subscribers receive weekly shipments of organic produce right to their door or to a convenient pickup location. All items are seasonal and shoppers can customize their box each week. This service is currently available in Washington State, Idaho, Alaska and San Francisco, but is expanding.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plated.com<\/strong> Shoppers subscribe to get the ingredients to re-create a chef\u2019s recipe from scratch. Orders include premeasured spices and local and seasonal ingredients when possible.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Target Subscriptions <\/strong>This new program allows shoppers to have groceries, household basics, and personal care items delivered on a schedule of their choosing. Plus, users save 5 percent on each order and get free shipping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 align=\"center\">Compare Unit Prices<\/h3>\n<p>Buying small sizes never pays, but sometimes the medium size is as good a deal as the big one. <em>ShopSmart <\/em>scanned dozens of items, and recommends purchasing the following items and sizes for the biggest savings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Heinz Ketchup <\/strong><em>Buy Big<\/em><strong>. <\/strong>Shoppers save 43 percent when they purchase a 38-ounce bottle for $3.27 as opposed to a 14-ounce bottle for $2.12 at supermarkets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hellmann\u2019s Mayonnaise <\/strong><em>Buy Medium or Big<\/em>. Shoppers save 37 percent when they purchase a 30-ounce jar for $3.78, or a 48-ounce jar for $7.62, versus the 15-ounce jar for $3.02 at Walmart.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ziploc Double Zipper Freezer Bags <\/strong><em>Buy Big<\/em>. Shoppers can save 28 percent on the gallon-sized bags when they purchase a 30-count box for $5.08 compared to the 15-count box for $3.55 at supermarkets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Free Apps<\/h3>\n<p>To save money online or in the grocery store, <em>ShopSmart<\/em> recommends the following apps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Boxed <\/strong>Best for bulk shopping<em>.<\/em> Users get access to warehouse prices and sizes without membership fees or long lines.
