{"id":8717,"date":"2014-06-29T18:00:16","date_gmt":"2014-06-29T23:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=8717"},"modified":"2014-06-29T00:41:10","modified_gmt":"2014-06-29T05:41:10","slug":"celebrate-an-1850s-independence-day-at-lbl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2014\/06\/29\/celebrate-an-1850s-independence-day-at-lbl\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate an 1850\u2019s Independence Day at LBL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-40768\" title=\"Land Between the Lakes - LBL\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/land_between_the_lakes.gif\" alt=\"Land Between the Lakes - LBL\" width=\"174\" height=\"126\" \/>Golden Pond, KY<\/strong> &#8211; On Friday, July 4th, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Land Between The Lakes , the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.landbetweenthelakes.us\/seendo\/attractions\/homeplace\/\" > Homeplace<\/a> will host a traditional 1850\u2019s Independence Day Celebration under the farm\u2019s shade trees.<\/p>\n<p>Special guest, Kentucky statesman Henry Clay, portrayed by George McGee, will entertain visitors with antics of 1850\u2019s politics.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_237379\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Homeplace.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-237379\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-237379\" title=\"The Homeplace at LBL.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Homeplace-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"The Homeplace at LBL.\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-237379\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Homeplace at LBL.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kyhumanities.org\/\" >Kentucky Humanities Council<\/a> and the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.neh.gov\/\" > National Endowment for the Humanities<\/a> fund the Henry Clay program.<\/p>\n<p>Activities include raising the 1850 American flag on the liberty pole, a group reading of the Declaration of Independence, patriotic crafts, games, music, and a cool slice of watermelon.<\/p>\n<p>Programs are included with general admission to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.landbetweenthelakes.us\/seendo\/attractions\/homeplace\/\" > Homeplace<\/a>: $5.00 ages 13 and up, $3.00 ages 5-12, and free for ages 4 and under.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors can spend the afternoon sitting under the shade trees enjoying old-time music from the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=f3FXnoMBrro&amp;feature=share&amp;list=PLh2WN5RXh1NS9nYjfC1s4dX5rwO28TTt4&amp;index=2\" > Dixie Volunteers<\/a>, learn how to play marbles and town ball, or lend a hand making ice cream the 1850\u2019s way! Ice cream recipes are included in the new Homeplace cookbook, \u201cThe Homeplace History and Receipt Book,\u201d which will be available for sale at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.landbetweenthelakes.us\/seendo\/attractions\/homeplace\/\" >Homeplace<\/a> gift shop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJuly 4<sup>th<\/sup> at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.landbetweenthelakes.us\/seendo\/attractions\/homeplace\/\" >Homeplace<\/a> is a wonderful way for the whole family to experience and learn the history behind one of the most important holidays in the 1850s,\u201d said Interpreter, Ellen Bravard. \u201cOur visitors will relive a time when the War for Independence from Great Britain was still fresh in memories and family stories. It was also a time of political speeches and community wide picnics. We welcome everyone to join us under the shade trees&#8211;bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets to make a day of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, manages Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area in partnership with Friends of Land Between The Lakes in Western Kentucky and Tennessee.
