{"id":17359,"date":"2020-11-15T08:19:02","date_gmt":"2020-11-15T14:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=17359"},"modified":"2020-11-14T21:48:14","modified_gmt":"2020-11-15T03:48:14","slug":"tennessee-department-of-education-announces-free-fall-sessions-available-for-tennessee-principal-professional-learning-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2020\/11\/15\/tennessee-department-of-education-announces-free-fall-sessions-available-for-tennessee-principal-professional-learning-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Department of Education announces Free Fall Sessions available for Tennessee Principal Professional Learning Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-335392\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Education\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Tennessee-Department-of-Education.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Education\" width=\"250\" height=\"111\">Nashville, TN <\/strong>&#8211; The Tennessee Department of Education and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville\u2019s Center for Educational Leadership announced additional live sessions as part of the Tennessee Principal Professional Learning Series, a free professional development resource for Tennessee\u2019s principals to address challenges presented by COVID-19 Coronavirus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_315479\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/School-Education.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-315479\" class=\"wp-image-315479 size-medium\" title=\"Tennessee Principals; Assistant Principals Invited to Participate in Live Sessions.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/School-Education-480x313.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Principals; Assistant Principals Invited to Participate in Live Sessions.\" width=\"480\" height=\"313\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-315479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tennessee Principals; Assistant Principals Invited to Participate in Live Sessions.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Upcoming&nbsp;live&nbsp;sessions of the&nbsp;Tennessee&nbsp;Principal Professional Learning Series will address topics relevant to school leaders at this critical time, including supporting teachers and supporting students.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the spring and summer months,&nbsp;any principal or school leader was able to access these&nbsp;free sessions, thanks to our partnership with the University of Tennessee,&nbsp;to help prepare them for the&nbsp;unique&nbsp;challenges they are facing&nbsp;leading schools this year,\u201d&nbsp;said Commissioner Penny Schwinn.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to continue this partnership to continue equipping our educators, principals, and school staff with essential resources to help our kids succeed,\u201d Schwinn stated.<\/p>\n<p>As a continuation of this unique partnership, the department and the&nbsp;University of Tennessee\u2019s&nbsp;Center for Educational Leadership, under the leadership of Dr. Jim&nbsp;McIntyre, will provide virtual professional learning opportunities to principals as they address the immediate challenges facing their schools during the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic,&nbsp;with a focus on&nbsp;supporting educators and educating&nbsp;the whole child.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like&nbsp;the&nbsp;spring and&nbsp;summer series, the&nbsp;upcoming&nbsp;fall sessions will be completely free, optional, and eligible for 2020-21 TASL-credit.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were so excited and impressed with the engagement and enthusiasm around the spring and summer sessions of the Tennessee Principal Professional Learning Series,\u201d&nbsp;said Dr. Jim McIntyre, Director of the Center for Educational Leadership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis partnership with the department has provided hundreds of school leaders and district staff with essential skills and resources to enhance student learning and success during this challenging school year. We look forward to continuing this important effort to support school principals this fall,\u201d McIntyre stated.<\/p>\n<p>Each 90-minute live session will include breakout groups where principals will be able to discuss session content, reflect on their experiences, and exchange best practices with their peers.&nbsp;All Tennessee&nbsp;principals are welcome to participate in live sessions.&nbsp;Exclusive&nbsp;sessions are&nbsp;also&nbsp;being offered to participants of the Rural Principals Network and Intensive Transformation Cohort (ITC). Further, there are two live sessions for Tennessee\u2019s assistant principals to attend.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[470center]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Live sessions begin next&nbsp;week. Additionally, there were over 1,000 overall participants, including principals, assistant principals, and district staff.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Goins,&nbsp;Principal at Battle Academy, said,&nbsp;\u201cEvery year, I worry about the best way in which I can fulfill TASL requirements while learning&nbsp;and also&nbsp;juggling a schedule that is busier now more than ever.&nbsp; THESE sessions are the answer. They&nbsp;are timely and useful&nbsp;and fit&nbsp;into my schedule.&nbsp; I\u2019m grateful for these and look forward to upcoming modules.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Katie Osborne, Principal at Greenbrier High School, stated,&nbsp;\u201cI have shared the COVID comeback models that were presented in Module 6 with our Assistant Principals so we could start further thinking about instruction this fall. This has been a wonderful and effective series. It\u2019s not as overwhelming when we can learn and discuss this together.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the spring, sessions focused on immediate issues facing principals&nbsp;in light of&nbsp;COVID-19 Coronavirus, such as best practices in digital learning, whole child needs, and leading remotely.
