{"id":17357,"date":"2020-11-14T18:30:09","date_gmt":"2020-11-15T00:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=17357"},"modified":"2020-11-14T14:58:47","modified_gmt":"2020-11-14T20:58:47","slug":"tennessee-governor-bill-lee-announces-reconnect-to-workforce-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2020\/11\/14\/tennessee-governor-bill-lee-announces-reconnect-to-workforce-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announces Reconnect to Workforce Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-330575\" title=\"Tennessee State Government\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Tennessee-State-Government-2.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee State Government\" width=\"250\" height=\"74\">Nashville, TN <\/strong>&#8211; Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced Reconnect to Workforce, a partnership between the Tennessee Higher Education Commission\u2019s Tennessee Reconnect program and the Department of Labor and Workforce Development that will assist up to 500,000 Tennesseans claiming unemployment benefits to earn a college degree while fulfilling work search requirements.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_444646\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Tennessee-Governor-Bill-Lee.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-444646\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-444646\" title=\"Tennessee Governor Bill Lee\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Tennessee-Governor-Bill-Lee-480x325.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Governor Bill Lee\" width=\"480\" height=\"325\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-444646\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tennessee Governor Bill Lee<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs federal unemployment benefits end, we want to ensure Tennesseans have the tools needed to skill up and gain long-term employment,\u201d said Governor Lee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are over 250,000 available jobs in Tennessee and this partnership will remove barriers so Tennesseans across our state can obtain the skills needed to acquire a high-quality job,\u201d Governor Lee stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest challenge in reconnecting Tennesseans to education is often financial hardship,\u201d said Tennessee Higher Education Commission Executive Director Mike Krause. \u201cBy removing this hurdle, we\u2019re giving unemployed Tennesseans the opportunity to reskill and find a new path forward in our changing workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee Reconnect offers two years of tuition-free community or technical college by establishing last-dollar scholarships for eligible adults who have not yet obtained a degree.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals from high-need populations make up a significant portion of grant recipients, including 58% having dependents and almost 70% making below $50,000. Last year, over 2,000 students were awarded a certificate or degree.<\/p>\n<p>Federal unemployment benefits funded by the CARES Act will expire as claimants reach the maximum 39 weeks of payments in the coming weeks.
