{"id":17235,"date":"2020-10-22T10:42:21","date_gmt":"2020-10-22T15:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=17235"},"modified":"2020-10-22T03:12:02","modified_gmt":"2020-10-22T08:12:02","slug":"tennessee-department-of-health-releases-infrastructure-plan-for-covid-19-vaccine-distribution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2020\/10\/22\/tennessee-department-of-health-releases-infrastructure-plan-for-covid-19-vaccine-distribution\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Department of Health releases Infrastructure Plan for COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-326272\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Health\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Tennessee-Department-of-Health.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Health\" width=\"240\" height=\"108\"><strong>Nashville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) has announced the state\u2019s infrastructure plan for distribution of COVID-19 Coronavirus vaccines once they become available.<\/p>\n<p>TDH in coordination with other state and local agencies submitted an initial draft of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/content\/dam\/tn\/health\/documents\/cedep\/novel-coronavirus\/COVID-19_Vaccination_Plan.pdf\" > COVID-19 Vaccination Plan for Tennessee<\/a> to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on October 16th, 2020.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_503048\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/COVID-19-Vaccines-Vials.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-503048\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-503048\" title=\"Tennessee prepares for COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution when it becomes available.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/COVID-19-Vaccines-Vials-480x270.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee prepares for COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution when it becomes available.\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-503048\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tennessee prepares for COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution when it becomes available.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assure Tennesseans that safe, effective and approved COVID-19 vaccines will be released in Tennessee when they are available to reduce the spread of the virus,\u201d said Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey, MD, MBA, FAAP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur vaccine distribution plan will be modified as more is understood about the virus and the availability of approved vaccines currently in development,\u201d Piercey stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TDH has developed a preliminary structure for the allocation and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Five percent of Tennessee\u2019s allocation of COVID-19 vaccines will be distributed equitably among all 95 counties<\/li>\n<li>Ten percent of Tennessee\u2019s allocation of COVID-19 vaccines will be reserved by the state for use in targeted areas with high vulnerability to illness and death from the virus<\/li>\n<li>85 percent of Tennessee\u2019s allocation of COVID-19 vaccines will be distributed among all 95 counties based on their populations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TDH modeled this approach to allocation and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines after review of the CDC\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/imz-managers\/downloads\/COVID-19-Vaccination-Program-Interim_Playbook.pdf\" > <em>COVID-19 Vaccination Program Interim Playbook for Jurisdictional Operations<\/em><\/a> and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalacademies.org\/our-work\/a-framework-for-equitable-allocation-of-vaccine-for-the-novel-coronavirus\" > Framework for Equitable Allocation of COVID-19 Vaccine<\/a>, and in consultation with Tennessee\u2019s Unified Command Group and a stakeholder group of more than 28 partner agencies and offices.<\/p>\n<p>TDH will ensure implementation of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program through tracking of provider enrollment, mapping of locations of vaccination services, monitoring performance of the Tennessee Immunization Information System and tracking of vaccine ordering and distribution.<\/p>\n<p>TDH is working to rapidly recruit and onboard hospitals, pharmacies, clinics and other partners capable of storing vaccine and administering it to priority populations.
