{"id":16278,"date":"2020-06-01T12:30:18","date_gmt":"2020-06-01T17:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=16278"},"modified":"2020-06-01T10:34:05","modified_gmt":"2020-06-01T15:34:05","slug":"tennessee-department-of-education-announces-second-phase-of-pbs-partnership-for-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2020\/06\/01\/tennessee-department-of-education-announces-second-phase-of-pbs-partnership-for-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Department of Education announces Second Phase of PBS Partnership for Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-335392\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Education\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Tennessee-Department-of-Education.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Education\" width=\"250\" height=\"111\">Nashville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Today, Monday, June 1st, 2020, the Tennessee Department of Education\u202f(TDOE) announced a second phase of its partnership with statewide PBS stations to help ensure children continue to have access to educational content during the summer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_315479\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/School-Education.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-315479\" class=\"wp-image-315479 size-medium\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Education releases Schedule for Second Phase of Video Lessons.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/School-Education-480x313.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Education releases Schedule for Second Phase of Video Lessons.\" width=\"480\" height=\"313\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-315479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tennessee Department of Education releases Schedule for Second Phase of Video Lessons.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Starting June 1st, all six Tennessee PBS stations\u2013 WNPT Nashville, East Tennessee PBS, WCTE Upper Cumberland, WKNO Memphis, West TN PBS, and Chattanooga WTCI \u2013 will offer high quality educational programming for grades K-3, weekdays from 10:00am-12:00pm CT, through June and July.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are incredibly grateful for this PBS partnership which has made it possible&nbsp;to provide&nbsp;more&nbsp;students with access to&nbsp;educational&nbsp;content,\u201d said Commissioner Penny Schwinn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen an overwhelming response to the Teaching Tennessee Learning Series, created by Tennessee teachers in Tennessee classrooms, so we are excited about the opportunity to continue the partnership and keep students engaged, learning, and growing all summer long,\u201d Schwinn stated.<\/p>\n<p>The TDOE-PBS partnership launched April 6th in response to COVID-19 Coronavirus school closures. The department worked with Tennessee teachers and districts to create \u201cTennessee Teaching,\u201d an at-home learning series consisting of a total of 320 virtual classroom lessons providing ELA and Math instruction for 1<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;\u20138<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;grade students&nbsp;to help&nbsp;ensure&nbsp;children&nbsp;had access to learning opportunities regardless of internet connectivity in their home.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to broadcasting these resources&nbsp;over eight weeks of programming across all Tennessee PBS stations,&nbsp;all 320 lessons have companion teacher lesson plans and student packets&nbsp;which are&nbsp;available on the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/education\/pbsteaching.html\" >department\u2019s website.<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The lessons are also provided on the department\u2019s&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/TNDeptofEducation\" >YouTube<\/a>&nbsp;page, twenty lessons&nbsp;for each<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/TNDeptofEducation\" >&nbsp;subject in each grade<\/a>,&nbsp;and have&nbsp;had more than 75,000 views over the past two months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The PBS programming helped in a time of transition and gave many of our students a way to engage without having to have broadband internet.&nbsp;The&nbsp;lessons became an important tool&nbsp;for us&nbsp;to help keep students learning,\u201d said Shawn Kimble,&nbsp;Superintendent&nbsp;of Lauderdale County Schools.&nbsp;\u201cThe department&nbsp;was swift in getting us that help&nbsp;when we most needed it&nbsp;and I think the effort was appreciated by many.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On just one of Tennessee\u2019s PBS Stations, WCTE, viewers&nbsp;also&nbsp;streamed over 60,000 minutes of Teaching Tennessee content through&nbsp;YouTubeTV. And viewer feedback, shared on social media,&nbsp;highlighted the positive response to the&nbsp;teachers and their work to create these lessons:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[470center]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>These lessons are AWESOME! Today my son did the 6th grade Math lesson which gave me time to spend with my 1st grader. NPT, you\u2019re learning saver!
