The patient is an adult male from Williamson County who had recently traveled out-of-state.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_482711\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Coronavirus.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-482711\" class=\"wp-image-482711 size-medium\" title=\"First case of Coronavirus detected in Tennessee.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Coronavirus-480x240.jpg\" alt=\"First case of Coronavirus detected in Tennessee.\" width=\"480\" height=\"240\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-482711\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First case of Coronavirus detected in Tennessee.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The patient has a mild illness and is isolated at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working closely with local health care partners to identify contacts and contain spread of this disease in our communities,\u201d said Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey, MD, MBA, FAAP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been anticipating identification of COVID-19 cases in Tennessee. At this time, the overall risk to the general public remains low. We are continuing to work with the CDC and other agencies to provide guidance to Tennesseans to protect their health,\u201d Piercey stated.<\/p>\n<p>Most patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection have mild respiratory illness with fever, cough and shortness of breath. A smaller number of patients have severe symptoms requiring hospitalization. COVID-19 is not currently widespread in the United States, so no additional precautions are recommended for the general public to take beyond normal practices to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.<\/li>\n<li>Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands<\/li>\n<li>Stay home if you are sick<\/li>\n<li>Stay away from people who are sick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TDH has launched a Tennessee Coronavirus Public Information Line effective at 10:00am Central time today in partnership with the Tennessee Poison Center.<\/p>\n<p>[320left]The hotline number is 877.857.2945 and will be available from 10:00am to 10:00pm Central daily.<\/p>\n<p>People with concerns about their health should contact their health care providers.
