Join us at the Woodlands Nature Station (NS) to learn more about these intelligent, awe-inspiring, and rare animals. Fun, educational programs will be featured throughout the week for wolf enthusiasts of all ages.<\/p>\n<p>The NS participates in the Red Wolf Recovery Program, a captive breeding program for the endangered red wolf. \u201cRed wolves were once declared officially extinct in the wild. Thanks to recovery efforts, they have been reintroduced into a wildlife refuge in North Carolina. Yet, red wolves are still designated as a critically endangered species. Wolf Week is an opportunity to learn about how LBL is helping in the recovery of these amazing creatures,\u201d said Carrie Szwed, Public Programs Coordinator at the NS.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_50046\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wolfweek.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50046\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50046\" title=\"A female red wolf, part of LBL's recovery program, calls Nature Station her home.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wolfweek-480x293.jpg\" alt=\"A female red wolf, part of LBL's recovery program, calls Nature Station her home.\" width=\"480\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-50046\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A female red wolf, part of LBL&#39;s recovery program, calls Nature Station her home.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Visitors to the NS will have an opportunity to view captive red wolves during special programs designed for Wolf Week and learn more about this rare animal and its comeback from the brink of extinction.<\/p>\n<p>Wolf Week is also a time to dispel some of the common myths people have about wolves. \u201cWe will discuss myths including wolves being portrayed as wicked characters in fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood,\u201d added Szwed. \u201cPeople often think predators are undesirable because they kill other animals, but they are an integral part of wild ecosystems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All Wolf Week programs are free with Nature Station admission.<\/p>\n<h3>Programs throughout the week will include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Howl Your Head Off!<\/strong> &#8211; Sun, Oct 10th @ 3:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cWolves on the Prowl\u201d Game<\/strong> &#8211; Mon, Oct 11th @ 1:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Back From the Brink<\/strong> &#8211; Tue, Oct 12th @ 1:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>A Southern Wonder: Red Wolves<\/strong> &#8211; Wed, Oct 13th @ 3:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wolves of the World<\/strong> &#8211; Thu, Oct 14th @ 1:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Who\u2019s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?<\/strong> &#8211; Fri, Oct 15th @ 3:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Howlin\u2019 Fun Canine Crafts<\/strong> &#8211; Sat, Oct 16th @ 1:00pm-4:00pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>About Land Between The Lakes<\/h3>\n<p>Land Between The Lakes is managed by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in partnership with \u201cFriends of LBL,\u201d to provide public lands outdoor recreation and environmental education.
