{"id":14726,"date":"2019-08-31T22:00:50","date_gmt":"2019-09-01T03:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=14726"},"modified":"2019-08-31T17:56:04","modified_gmt":"2019-08-31T22:56:04","slug":"tdci-warns-about-national-loan-payment-protection-insurance-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2019\/08\/31\/tdci-warns-about-national-loan-payment-protection-insurance-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"TDCI Warns About National \u201cLoan Payment Protection Insurance\u201d Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-321814\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance - TDCI\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Tennessee-Department-of-Commerce-and-Insurance.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance - TDCI\" width=\"250\" height=\"88\"><strong>Nashville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) is joining other state regulators in warning consumers about a national insurance scam targeting consumers shopping for privately funded loans, likely for real estate.<\/p>\n<p>Victims have been identified in three states including Tennessee where a Johnson City man says he lost $18,000 to scammers.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Scam-Alert.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-301705\" title=\"Scam Alert\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Scam-Alert-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"Scam Alert\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>California Department of Insurance Enforcement Investigators identified the scam\u2019s inner workings.<\/p>\n<p>The perpetrators allegedly contact consumers who have inquired online about securing a loan, using the name Val Taylor\/Val Taylor Investments (this person is also a victim).<\/p>\n<p>The perpetrators then tell the consumer they can arrange the loan, but the borrower must first purchase a \u201cLoan Payment Protection Insurance\u201d policy that will pay the loan, in the event the borrower is unable to make payments and avoid default.<\/p>\n<p>To appear legitimate, the scammers provide a certificate of insurance that appears to be issued by the California Department of Insurance, includes the Great Seal of the State of CA and bears the name of the borrower.&nbsp; The certificate is FRAUDULENT.&nbsp; Like TDCI, the California Department of Insurance is a state regulatory agency and DOES NOT issue insurance certificates, but rather regulates the insurance industry.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers are reminded that if someone offers to loan you money and requires you to purchase a loan guarantee policy Do Not Send Them Money or Provide Any Personal Information.&nbsp; If you suspect you are the victim of these scammers, please contact the California Department of Insurance Consumer&nbsp;Services Division toll-free at 800.927.4357 or TDCI at 800.863.9117 615.741.5900.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the media seeking to interview the Tennessee victim of this scam should contact Kevin Walters at <a href=\"mailto:kevin.walters@tn.gov\">kevin.walters@tn.gov<\/a> or by phone at 615.253.8941.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nashville, TN &#8211; The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) is joining other state regulators in warning consumers about a national insurance scam targeting consumers shopping for privately funded loans, likely for real estate.
