{"id":1409,"date":"2010-09-22T06:00:05","date_gmt":"2010-09-22T11:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=1409"},"modified":"2010-09-21T23:15:10","modified_gmt":"2010-09-22T04:15:10","slug":"national-public-lands-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2010\/09\/22\/national-public-lands-day\/","title":{"rendered":"National Public Lands Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-40768\" title=\"Land Between the Lakes\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/land_between_the_lakes.gif\" alt=\"Land Between the Lakes\" width=\"174\" height=\"126\" \/><strong>Golden Pond, KY<\/strong> \u2013 Saturday, September 25, Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will be waiving fees at participating day-use facilities in honor of National Public Lands Day (NPLD).<\/p>\n<p>General admission to The Homeplace (HP), Woodlands Nature Station (NS), Elk &amp; Bison Prairie, and the Golden Pond Planetarium (GPP) show at 1:00pm will be free. Wranglers Campground will also be waiving day-use riding fees. Visitors can also pick up a coupon at NS, HP, or GPP for a \u201cbuy one, get one free\u201d return visit for ages 13 and up. The return visit coupon, which expires November 30th, 2010, will be good for a future one-time admission to either NS or HP (does not include special events).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to waiving fees, LBL will also be unveiling a new gatehouse and shower building at Energy Lake Campground. Take a leisurely drive on the newly paved road leading to Energy Lake Campground (Rd 134) to check out the recent improvements. While you are out and about, be sure to visit our new and drastically improved Golden Pond Target Range along US68\/KY80. Along with the improvements, reservations are no longer required to use the Range.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>LBL will join other National Forests and National Parks across the United States in participating in our nation\u2019s largest one-day volunteer event for public lands. There will be opportunities for volunteers to participate in a shoreline clean-up or a trail maintenance project.<\/p>\n<p>It is recommended, but not necessary, to call to register for volunteer work early. Registrations should be made by September 24th, especially larger groups. There will be three events taking place that day. The first event is from 8:30am-4:00pm: a trail project on the North\/South Trail, meeting at Grey\u2019s Cemetery on Rd 130. Two events are from 9:00am-3:30pm: a shoreline clean-up with check-in at Nature Station, and a canoe\/kayak cleanup with check-in at Neville Bay. Volunteers should bring a lunch and dress for outdoor work.
