After a fisheries biologist visually identified the species and weight was verified with certified scales, a small fin clip was sent for genetic testing to confirm that the fish was not a hybrid.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_427124\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Lionel-Ferguson-with-record-setting-Black-Crappie.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-427124\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-427124\" title=\"Lionel Ferguson with record setting Black Crappie\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Lionel-Ferguson-with-record-setting-Black-Crappie-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Lionel Ferguson with record setting Black Crappie\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-427124\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lionel Ferguson with record setting Black Crappie<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The previous state record for a black crappie was 4 pounds, 4 ounces caught in Brown\u2019s Creek Lake by Clyde Freeman 33 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson\u2019s catch also would qualify as the new International Game Fish Association (IGFA) world record for black crappie, besting the current record by 7.68 ounces. The current record was caught from a private lake in Missouri by John Horstman in 2006.
