{"id":13740,"date":"2018-06-15T20:00:18","date_gmt":"2018-06-16T01:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=13740"},"modified":"2018-06-15T18:03:56","modified_gmt":"2018-06-15T23:03:56","slug":"tennessee-continues-to-experience-historically-low-unemployment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2018\/06\/15\/tennessee-continues-to-experience-historically-low-unemployment\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Continues To Experience Historically Low Unemployment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Tennessee <span class=\"subtitle\">Unemployment Has Remained 3.5 percent or Lower for 11 Consecutive Months <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-327830\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Tennessee-Department-of-Labor-and-Workforce-Development.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development\" width=\"250\" height=\"76\"><strong>Nashville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced today that Tennessee\u2019s May 2018 statewide unemployment rate of 3.5 percent marked the 11th consecutive month the figure has been 3.5 percent or lower.<\/p>\n<p>While the May unemployment rate represents a slight uptick of 0.1 of a percentage point compared to the April rate of 3.4 percent, year-to-year, it is 0.3 of a percentage point lower than it was in May 2017.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Tennessee-Unemployment-Rate-January-May-2018.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-426463\" title=\"Tennessee Unemployment Rate - January-May 2018\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Tennessee-Unemployment-Rate-January-May-2018-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Unemployment Rate - January-May 2018\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack in May of 2011, the unemployment rate was 9.2 percent,\u201d Haslam said. \u201cWe have made tremendous progress over the last seven years, bringing new businesses to the state and creating hundreds of thousands of new private sector jobs. Tennessee will lead in job creation because we\u2019ve worked hard to create an environment where businesses can grow and thrive and a skilled workforce ready for the demands of today\u2019s employers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Between April and May of this year, Tennessee added another 7,800 nonfarm jobs. The vast majority of jobs created last month were in the professional\/business services industry, which accounted for 4,200 new positions.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally, unemployment dropped for the second consecutive month. The United States unemployment rate for May was 3.8 percent, down 0.1 of a percentage point from the previous month.
