{"id":13312,"date":"2017-12-14T12:00:37","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T18:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=13312"},"modified":"2017-12-14T11:13:36","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T17:13:36","slug":"new-tbi-report-details-firearm-related-crime-in-tennessee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2017\/12\/14\/new-tbi-report-details-firearm-related-crime-in-tennessee\/","title":{"rendered":"New TBI report details Firearm-Related Crime in Tennessee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-60846\" title=\"Tennessee Bureau of Investigation \" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/tbi-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Bureau of Investigation\" width=\"158\" height=\"150\">Nashville, TN <\/strong>&#8211; The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released a report today detailing the nature and volume of reported firearms-related crime across the state over a four-year period.<\/p>\n<p>The report, \u201cFirearm Violence in Tennessee: 2013-2016,\u201d utilizes data submitted by the state\u2019s law enforcement agencies through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS).<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2013-2016-Firearm-Violence-in-Tennessee-report.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-407516\" title=\"2013-2016 Firearm Violence in Tennessee report\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2013-2016-Firearm-Violence-in-Tennessee-report-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"2013-2016 Firearm Violence in Tennessee report\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Among the report\u2019s findings:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>From 2013 to 2016, firearm-related criminal offenses increased by 24.8%.<\/li>\n<li>The number of reported Murders involving a firearm increased by 54.7% in the four-year study period.<\/li>\n<li>Aggravated Assaults accounted for the largest portion of reported firearms-related crime, and increased by 30.5% from 2013 to 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Males (85.8%) were nine times more likely to engage in firearm-related criminal offenses than Females (8.8%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI am deeply concerned with the findings of this report reflecting a substantial increase in firearm-related crimes in our state,\u201d said TBI Director Mark Gwyn. \u201cThis increase puts an additional strain on Tennessee\u2019s law enforcement resources and poses a serious threat to public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The TBI embarked on this study, the first of its kind in Tennessee, to support efforts by the United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics to develop a number of national statistical studies to better understand a variety of crimes, including those involving firearms.<\/p>\n<p>The full report can be reviewed on the TBI\u2019s website: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/content\/dam\/tn\/tbi\/documents\/tibrs\/Firearm%20Report-2013-2016_Final.pdf\" >www.tn.gov\/content\/dam\/tn\/tbi\/documents\/tibrs\/Firearm%20Report-2013-2016_Final.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nashville, TN &#8211; The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released a report today detailing the nature and volume of reported firearms-related crime across the state over a four-year period.
