Over the past year, the state and national rates have declined by 1.5 and five-tenths of a percentage point, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/August-2017-Labor-Force-Estimates-1.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-393612\" title=\"August 2017 - Labor Force Estimates\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/August-2017-Labor-Force-Estimates-1-480x114.jpg\" alt=\"August 2017 - Labor Force Estimates\" height=\"114\" width=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact Tennessee\u2019s unemployment rate has dropped three times as fast as the national unemployment rate is remarkable,\u201d Commissioner Phillips noted. \u201cThat decline proves Tennessee is a great place to operate a business, to work and to raise a family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Total nonfarm employment increased 8,200 jobs from July to August. The largest increases occurred in trade\/transportation\/utilities, mining\/logging\/construction, and educational\/health services.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/August-2017-Business-Survey-1.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-393613\" title=\"August 2017 - Business Survey\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/August-2017-Business-Survey-1-480x152.jpg\" alt=\"August 2017 - Business Survey\" height=\"152\" width=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over the year, nonfarm employment increased 52,200 jobs, with the greatest amount of growth experienced in trade\/transportation\/utilities, professional\/business services, and leisure\/hospitality.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Tennessee marked an historic low unemployment rate in June 2017 at 3.6 percent, which was bested the following month by a 3.4 percent seasonally-adjusted rate.
