{"id":12812,"date":"2017-07-20T22:00:05","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T03:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=12812"},"modified":"2017-07-20T22:00:05","modified_gmt":"2017-07-21T03:00:05","slug":"tennessee-governor-bill-haslam-announces-lowest-unemployment-rate-in-state-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2017\/07\/20\/tennessee-governor-bill-haslam-announces-lowest-unemployment-rate-in-state-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Announces Lowest Unemployment Rate in State History"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Tennessee has unemployment rate of 3.6 percent for June 2017<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-327830\" title=\"Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Tennessee-Department-of-Labor-and-Workforce-Development.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development\" width=\"250\" height=\"76\"><strong>Nashville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips today announced Tennessee\u2019s unemployment rate for June 2017 was 3.6 percent, the lowest in Tennessee recorded history.<\/p>\n<p>The June 2017 preliminary seasonally adjusted rate surpasses the previous low of 3.7 percent from March 2000.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Unemployment-Rate-Tennessee-June-2017.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-388022\" title=\"Tennessee Unemployment Rate - June 2017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Unemployment-Rate-Tennessee-June-2017-480x357.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Unemployment Rate - June 2017\" width=\"480\" height=\"357\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The state has not experienced an unemployment rate below 4.0 percent since it was 3.9 percent in February 2001.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s truly exciting about today\u2019s news is that this is a statewide story,\u201d Haslam said. \u201cToday more than ever, businesses have a choice of where to grow or expand, and because of the policies this administration has put in place working with the General Assembly, we\u2019re seeing the job growth that comes when businesses choose Tennessee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>June\u2019s rate declines four-tenths of a percentage point from the May revised rate of 4.0 percent. Amid notable improvements in Tennessee\u2019s unemployment rate, the national preliminary rate increases by one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month to 4.4 percent, lingering in the 4.0 percentile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a state\u2019s rate declines during a national uptick in unemployment, that\u2019s something to note,\u201d Phillips said. \u201cJust seven years ago more than 10 percent of Tennesseans were out of work. One of Governor Haslam\u2019s top priorities has been to make Tennessee the best state in the southeast for high quality jobs. All indications point to that priority becoming a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Labor-Force-Estimates-June-2017.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-388023\" title=\"Labor Force Estimates - June 2017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Labor-Force-Estimates-June-2017-480x114.jpg\" alt=\"Labor Force Estimates - June 2017\" width=\"480\" height=\"114\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s unemployment shift is largely due to declines in the seasonally adjusted labor force. Over the past year, Tennessee has led the decrease in seasonally adjusted unemployment rates, declining from 4.7 percent to the current 3.6 percent, while the national rate declined half a percentage point from 4.9 percent to 4.4 percent.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Business-Survey-June-2017.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-388024\" title=\"Business Survey - June 2017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Business-Survey-June-2017-480x155.jpg\" alt=\"Business Survey - June 2017\" width=\"480\" height=\"155\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Between May and June, the total nonfarm employment has increased by 5,900 jobs. The largest industry increases occurred in leisure\/hospitality, trade\/transportation\/utilities, and mining\/logging\/construction.<\/p>\n<p>Nonfarm employment has increased by 59,300 jobs within a 12-month span. Industry increases were greatest in professional\/business services, trade\/transportation\/utilities, and leisure\/hospitality industries.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Analysis and Labor Force Estimates are prepared by the Employment Security division\u2019s labor market information specialists.
