February\u2019s U.S. preliminary rate is 4.7 percent, matching Tennessee with a tenth of a percentage point decline from the previous month.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Labor-Force-Estimates-Chart-February-2017.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-376537\" title=\"Labor Force Estimates Chart-February 2017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Labor-Force-Estimates-Chart-February-2017-480x137.jpg\" alt=\"Labor Force Estimates Chart-February 2017\" height=\"137\" width=\"480\"><\/a><!--more--><br \/>\nOver the past year, Tennessee\u2019s rate has increased by six-tenths of a percentage point while the national rate has declined by two-tenths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you see the unemployment tick up over a period of time, that always catches your attention,\u201d said TDLWD Commissioner Burns Phillips. \u201cBut when you look at the statistics, they tell an interesting story about Tennessee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Total nonfarm employment increased with 8,300 additional jobs from January to February. Education\/health services, mining\/logging\/construction, and manufacturing experienced the largest employment increases.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Business-Survey-Chart-February-2017.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-376538\" title=\"Business Survey Chart-February 2017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Business-Survey-Chart-February-2017-480x165.jpg\" alt=\"Business Survey Chart-February 2017\" height=\"165\" width=\"480\"><\/a><br \/>\n\u201cAs the number of people looking for jobs across the state grows faster than the hiring process, we have really focused on preparing those job seekers for employment with key resources like Jobs4TN.gov and our American Job Centers,&#8221; explained Commissioner Phillips.<\/p>\n<p>According to the commissioner, \u201cWhile these latest numbers may seem marginal, all the resources the state offers will really pay off in the long run, helping Tennesseans find work and lowering our unemployment rate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Unemployment-Rates-Graph-February-2017.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-376539\" title=\"Unemployment Rates Graph-February 2017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Unemployment-Rates-Graph-February-2017-480x305.jpg\" alt=\"Unemployment Rates Graph-February 2017\" height=\"305\" width=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Added to nonfarm employment were 66,100 jobs over the year. The largest increases occurred in leisure\/hospitality, trade\/transportation\/utilities, and professional\/business services.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Analysis and Labor Force Estimates are prepared by the Employment Security division\u2019s labor market information specialists. The division reports metrics and contextual information as it relates to employment, income, and population in Tennessee.
