{"id":11552,"date":"2016-07-18T08:00:25","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T13:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/?p=11552"},"modified":"2016-07-17T22:04:51","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T03:04:51","slug":"city-of-paris-receives-21000-grant-from-tennessee-historical-commission-for-restoration-of-paris-henry-county-heritage-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paristn.net\/articles\/2016\/07\/18\/city-of-paris-receives-21000-grant-from-tennessee-historical-commission-for-restoration-of-paris-henry-county-heritage-center\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Paris receives $21,000 grant from Tennessee Historical Commission for restoration of Paris Henry County Heritage Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Tennessee Historical Commission Awards Grants to Preserve Historic Sites<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-92653\" title=\"Tennessee Historical Commission\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Tennessee-Historical-Commission.gif\" alt=\"The Tennessee Historical Commission\" width=\"200\" height=\"198\" \/><strong>Nashville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; The Tennessee Historical Commission has awarded 31 grants from the federal Historic Preservation Fund to community and civic organizations for projects that support the preservation of historic and archaeological resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennessee\u2019s treasured historic places make our state unique and contribute to our quality of life,\u201d said Patrick McIntyre, state historic preservation officer and executive director of the Tennessee Historical Commission. \u201cThese grants will help protect the sites for future generations to study and enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_351112\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Smith-Trahern-Mansion.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-351112\" class=\"wp-image-351112 size-medium\" title=\"Smith-Trahern Mansion\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Smith-Trahern-Mansion-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Smith-Trahern Mansion\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-351112\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Smith-Trahern Mansion<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Awarded annually, 60 percent of the project funds are from the federal Historic Preservation Fund and 40 percent of project funds come from the grantee.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee Historical Commission reviewed 55 applications, with funding requests totaling approximately $1.2 million, nearly double the amount of funding available.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s selection includes building and archaeological surveys, design guidelines for historic districts, rehabilitation of historic buildings, posters highlighting the state\u2019s archaeology, and training for historic zoning staff or commissioners.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Commission\u2019s grant priorities is for projects that are in Certified Local Governments, a program that allows communities to participate closely in the federal historic preservation program. Seven Certified Local Government communities were awarded grants this year. Additional priorities include those that meet the goals and objectives of the Tennessee Historical Commission\u2019s plan for historic preservation. Properties that use the restoration grants must be listed in the National Register.<\/p>\n<h3>The grant recipients and\/or sites of the projects include:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bradley County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City of Cleveland<\/p>\n<p>$19,191 to restore plaster and wood in the historic Craigmiles House, the city library<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carter County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>East Tennessee State University<\/p>\n<p>$10,000 to fund a geophysical survey at the Carter Mansion<\/p>\n<p><strong>Davidson County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Traveller\u2019s Rest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>$5,320 to update the National Register nomination to include archaeology<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hardeman County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City of Bolivar and Hardeman County<\/p>\n<p>$28,020 to fund the restoration of the historic Hardeman County Courthouse<\/p>\n<p><strong>Henry County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City of Paris<\/p>\n<p>$21,000 to fund the restoration of the historic Paris Henry County Heritage Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jefferson County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Town of Dandridge<\/p>\n<p>$6,300 to fund the restoration of the Hickman Tavern, city hall<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knox County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Historic Ramsey House<\/p>\n<p>$20,000 to fund the restoration of the historic Ramsey House in Knoxville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maury County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City of Columbia<\/p>\n<p>$30,000 to fund the restoration of the historic Jack and Jill building, used by the city police department<\/p>\n<p><strong>McMinn County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First United Presbyterian Church of Athens<\/p>\n<p>$36,000 to fund the restoration of the historic First United Presbyterian Church<\/p>\n<p><strong>Montgomery County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City of Clarksville<\/p>\n<p>$24,600 to fund the restoration of the historic Smith-Trahern Mansion<\/p>\n<p><strong>Obion County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Obion County<\/p>\n<p>$9,078 to fund the restoration of the historic Obion County Courthouse<\/p>\n<p><strong>Westover Center for the Arts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>$15,507 for the restoration of the historic Westover Center building in Union City<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overton County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>American Legion Post 4<\/p>\n<p>$27,000 to fund the restoration of the historic American legion Building in Livingston<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shelby County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Victorian Village, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>$12,590 for design guidelines for the Victorian Village Historic District<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sumner
