EAB is a destructive forest pest that was introduced from Asia into the United States in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_41977\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/emerald-ash-borer1.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-41977\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-41977\" title=\"Emerald Ash Borer.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/emerald-ash-borer1-480x304.jpg\" alt=\"Emerald Ash Borer.\" width=\"480\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-41977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emerald Ash Borer.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->It was first detected in Tennessee in July 2010.<\/p>\n<p>EAB beetles can kill an ash tree within three years of the initial infestation.<\/p>\n<p>The insects are transported mainly by humans through infected ash nursery stock, firewood, unprocessed saw logs, and other ash products.<\/p>\n<h4>Citizens should report any symptomatic ash trees to TDA and follow these simple rules:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t transport firewood, even within the state.<\/li>\n<li>Use firewood from local sources near where it will be burned.<\/li>\n<li>If you purchase firewood, make sure that it is labeled and certified to be pest free.<\/li>\n<li>Watch for signs of infestation in your ash tree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tn.gov\/agriculture\/topic\/ag-businesses-eab\"  target=\"_blank\">www.tn.gov\/agriculture\/topic\/ag-businesses-eab<\/a> for a symptoms checklist and a map of quarantined counties.<\/p>\n<p>TDA\u2019s Division of Forestry estimates that there are 261 million ash trees on public and private land in Tennessee, potentially valued as high as $9 billion.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about EAB and other destructive forest pests, as well as tips for infestation prevention, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.protecttnforests.org\"  target=\"_blank\">www.protecttnforests.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nashville, TN &#8211; An infestation of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has inched further across the state.
