All of Tennessee\u2019s ninety five counties will have troopers working to ensure a safe holiday as we conclude 2015 and begin 2016.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_63011\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Traffic-Stop2.jpg\"  rel=\"attachment wp-att-63011\" class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63011\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-63011\" title=\"Tennessee Highway Patrolman on a traffic stop.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Traffic-Stop2-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Highway Patrolman on a traffic stop.\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-63011\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tennessee Highway Patrolman on a traffic stop.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->The state statute regarding \u201cNo Refusal\u201d allows law enforcement officials to seek search warrants for blood samples in cases involving suspected impaired drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cNo Refusal\u201d enforcement will take place in one county in each of the eight THP Districts. This campaign is aimed at deterring impaired driving and reducing fatal crashes on Tennessee roadways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal of the THP is to keep everyone who is traveling on Tennessee roadways safe,\u201d Colonel Tracy Trott said. \u201cWe will not tolerate impaired drivers. State troopers will aggressively enforce the drinking and driving law during the New Year\u2019s holiday period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The participating \u201cNo Refusal\u201d counties include Knox (Knoxville District); Hamilton (Chattanooga District); Davidson (Nashville District); Shelby (Memphis District); Washington (Fall Branch District); Putnam (Cookeville District); Lawrence (Lawrenceburg District); and Hardin (Jackson District).<\/p>\n<p>During last year\u2019s New Year\u2019s holiday period, nine people were killed in nine traffic crashes on Tennessee roadways. Of the nine vehicular fatalities, eight were vehicle occupants and one was a pedestrian. Alcohol was involved in three (33.3 %) of the traffic deaths, while four of the eight vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seat belts. State troopers have arrested 7,726 individuals for alcohol-impaired driving from January 1st through December 28th, 2015. In 2014, the number of arrests made during that time was 8,330.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur department will be working diligently to make sure Tennesseans arrive at their destinations safely,\u201d Commissioner Bill Gibbons said. \u201cIt is our intent to enforce traffic laws in order to keep Tennesseans safe. During this New Year\u2019s holiday, we hope you will enjoy your family and friends as you ring in the New Year.
