TDOT working to Repair Damaged Areas

Tennessee Department of Transportation - TDOTNashville, TN – Winter weather extremes lead to an increase in potholes on state highways and bridges.  Potholes form when moisture seeps into cracks in the pavement, then freezes and thaws causing the cracks to expand.  The constant pounding of traffic loosens the pavement which causes it to crumble, creating potholes.

Severe swings in temperature followed by periods of rain are the perfect conditions for widespread potholes to form.

TDOT offers Winter Driving Tips

February 17, 2015

Ice and Snow Take It SlowNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation would like to offer drivers these tips to follow when dealing with winter weather. Remember Ice and Snow: Take It Slow

When it snows, use your head not your feet. Slow down for wet, snowy, or icy conditions; when visibility is poor; or when conditions are changing or unpredictable; no matter what type of vehicle you drive. Even an SUV with four-wheel drive may not be able to stop any faster, or maintain control any better, once you lose traction.
