Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency looks to Lease Dove Fields for 2020 Season

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is seeking fields to lease for the upcoming 2020 dove season. The first segment of dove season opens at noon on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020.          

Landowners can earn up to $3,600 for providing a dove field for public hunting.  These fields must be available for a minimum of three priority hunt dates in September. 

Mourning doves are a popular game bird and one of the most widely distributed and abundant birds in North America.

More mourning doves are harvested than all other migratory bird species combined in 39 of the continental states.

TWRA Reports No Boating Fatalities, 11 BUI Arrests Over July 4th Operation Dry Water Weekend

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports there were no boating-related fatalities and eight statewide serious injury boating incidents over the July 4th holiday weekend which includes the annual Operation Dry Water.

Operation Dry Water was held July 3rd-5th, 2020 and is a national weekend of awareness and enforcement campaign directed toward reducing alcohol and drug-related accidents and fatalities.

TWRA reports Computerized Drawing to take place this year for Duck Blinds, Sandhill Crane Permits

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN -The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announces that the procedure for issuing duck blinds and sandhill crane tags this year will be 100 percent online with no in-person drawings due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. The change came in an emergency rule approved by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.

This year’s process was changed in an effort to help protect public health since the handheld drawing usually results in large crowds gathering at the various locations around the state.

TWRA announces Falconry Permit Period to begin July 1st

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The 2020 application period for the trapping of a peregrine falcon to be used in falconry will begin July 1st, 2020 the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has announced.

The number of permits to be allowed for the taking of peregrine falcons to be used in falconry is three this year as allowed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The TWRA will award the permits to the winners of a draw to be held on Wednesday, August 26th.

Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission changes Duck Blind Drawing process this year

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission passed an emergency rule to provide a different procedure for issuing duck blinds this year to help protect public health due to COVID-19 Coronavirus. The action came Friday at the June meeting of the commission held at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building.

The handheld drawings usually result in large crowds gathering at the various sites.

TWRA Set for Operation Dry Water Over July 4th Holiday Weekend

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN –  The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will be participating in Operation Dry Water, July 3rd-5th, 2020. Operation Dry Water is a weekend of education and enforcement about the dangers of impaired boating throughout the state.

The July 4th holiday means an increase in boater activity on the water and there is also an increase in the number on incidents during this time.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will host three Facebook Live events in July to talk with anglers and get feedback about fishing in Tennessee. The three events will be generally focused on east, middle, and west regions of the state and general comments or questions will be taken prior or during any meeting. 

TWRA welcomes the public to provide any comments or questions in advance of the events to ask.twra@tn.gov, or on Facebook or Instagram via direct message prior to and during the events.

TWRA says Food Plots not only benefit Wildlife but very valuable for Pollinators as well

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency  (TWRA) says food plots are not just for deer, turkeys, and doves.

In fact, various food plot mixtures are as beneficial for pollinators as expensive wildflower plantings. Mixtures of certain annual and perennial plants, including various clovers and chicory, that provide large amounts of high-quality forage for deer and turkeys also provide a continuous source of nectar for pollinators from mid-April through August.
