AAA says most Thanksgiving Holiday Travelers will see Cheaper Gas Prices this year

AAATampa, FL – AAA says for the 49 million Americans hitting the road for the Thanksgiving holiday, they will find gas prices mostly similar, if not cheaper, than last year’s holiday. Today’s national average is $2.59. That is just a few cents over the 2018 holiday weekend average of $2.57.

“During Thanksgiving week last year we saw the national gas price average decrease a nickel between Monday and Thursday, that could be the case again this year,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.

TDOT will halt Lane Closures on Tennessee Highways During Thanksgiving Holiday

Tennessee Department of Transportation - TDOTNashville, TN – Thanksgiving travelers will not be delayed by construction on Tennessee roads during this busy travel holiday. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will halt all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state.

All construction related lane closures will be stopped beginning at noon on Wednesday, November 27th, 2019 through 6:00am Monday, December 2nd, 2019.

AAA says More Than 55 Million Americans Will Travel for Thanksgiving; Most Since 2005

AAANashville, TN – More than 55 million travelers (1.3 million Tennesseans) are making plans to kick off the holiday season with a trip of 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving. This will be the second-highest Thanksgiving travel volume since AAA began tracking in 2000, trailing only the record set in 2005.

Overall, an additional 1.6 million more people will travel compared with last year, a 2.9% increase.

AAA reports Tennessee Gas Prices will average $2.38 during Thanksgiving

AAANashville, TN – Oil prices hit a new low last week, further fueling the plunge at the pump. Gas prices in Tennessee dropped another 8 cents last week. At $2.42 per gallon, the state average is the lowest since March, and only 16 cents higher than this year’s lowest daily average price of $2.26/g.

Thanksgiving gas prices in Tennessee will be slightly higher than last year. AAA forecasts more than 1.2 million Tennesseans will travel for Thanksgiving. Of those, 95 percent (nearly 1.2 million) will drive. By Thanksgiving Day, the state average should drop to $2.38/g, which is only 8 cents more than last year’s holiday ($2.30).

More Than 54 Million Americans to Travel this Thanksgiving, the Most Since 2005

AAAOrlando, FL – AAA projects 54.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, a 4.8 percent increase over last year.

The 2018 holiday weekend will see the highest Thanksgiving travel volume in more than a dozen years (since 2005), with 2.5 million more people taking to the nation’s roads, skies, rails and waterways compared with last year.

Oil, Gas Prices Plunging, Down 19 Cents in 31 Days

AAANashville, TN Fuel prices are plunging. Crude oil dove to 8-month lows last week, which means the slump at the pump should continue. 

Tennessee motorists have seen gas prices decline 19 cents in the past 31 days. Sunday’s state average of $2.50 is 5 cents less than a week ago, and the lowest since April 12th. Despite the recent discount, the average Tennesseean is still paying 16 cents per gallon more than this time last year.

Tennessee Highway Patrol launches I-40 Challenge Enforcement Initiative

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – Today, Commissioner David W. Purkey of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDSOHS) and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Tracy Trott joined multiple law enforcement partners to announce the fifth annual “I-40 Challenge Drive to Zero Fatalities” traffic safety initiative.

The I-40 Challenge will consist of increased patrols from state police/ highway patrol agencies along the I-40 corridor. In Tennessee, I-40 enforcement efforts will increase on the busiest travel days during the Thanksgiving holiday starting on Wednesday, November 22nd, and continuing through Sunday, November 26th.

AAA says Gas Prices Continue to drop during Thanksgiving Holiday

AAATampa, FL – AAA projects that 43.5 million Americans are expected to take a road trip this Thanksgiving and drivers will pay the second-cheapest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008, when the national average was $1.85.

Today’s national average price of $2.14 per gallon represents a savings of three cents per gallon versus one week ago and nine cents per gallon on the month.
