TWRA announces 2019 Deer Muzzleloader Season begins November 9th

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), the 2019 statewide muzzleloader/archery season for deer opens in Tennessee on Saturday, November 9th and continues through Friday, November 22nd in all of Tennessee’s deer hunting units. The opening of muzzleloader season in the state has a permanent opening date of the third Saturday before Thanksgiving.

For Unit CWD only in addition to muzzleloader, gun season will open on November 9th. The newly-created Unit CWD in the southwestern portion of the state was established after the confirmation of chronic wasting disease (CWD) last December.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Tennessee’s statewide three-day archery private lands only/antlered only deer season will be held August 23rd-25th, 2019. In addition, newly-created muzzleloader/archery, antlered only hunt for the new Unit CWD for private lands and selected public lands will take place.

Unit CWD hunting regulations only apply to CWD positive counties of Fayette County, Hardeman County, and Madison County and CWD high-risk counties of Chester County, Haywood County, McNairy County, Shelby County, and Tipton County.

TWRA reports 2018 Muzzleloader Season Opening Weekend Nets almost 7,700 Deer Harvested

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee deer hunters had a harvest of 7,683 on the opening weekend of muzzleloader season as reports continued to trickle in Monday, November 5th, 2018 according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

The current harvest number is an increase from the 4,949 recorded on the 2017 opening weekend.

Roane County had the top weekend with a harvest total of 237. Montgomery County was second with 223.

TWRA announces 2017-18 Gun Hunting Season for Deer Opens November 16th

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee’s 2017-18 gun hunting season for deer opens Saturday, November 18th, 2017. Deer gun season has the traditional opening date of the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving.

During gun season, sportsmen may also use muzzleloader or archery equipment. The season will continue through January 7th, 2018 and the second Young Sportsman Hunt is January 13th-14th.

Tennessee Hunting Seasons set at May Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRATullahoma, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the state’s 2016-17 hunting seasons at its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Arnold Air Force Base Gossick Leadership Center.

The state’s hunting seasons are annually established each year during the TWFC’s May meeting. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency made its recommendations during the April meeting. Additional recommendations were made by commission members.

Tennessee Muzzleloader Season for Deer Opened Saturday

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The 2015 muzzleloader/archery season for deer opened in Tennessee on Saturday, November 7th and continues through Friday, November 20th in all three of Tennessee’s deer hunting units, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The opening of muzzleloader season in the state has a permanent opening date of the third Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Muzzleloading firearms are defined as those firearms which are incapable of being loaded from the breech. Muzzleloading firearms of .36 caliber minimum plus long bows, compound bows and crossbows are legal hunting equipment for this season. TWRA reports Young Sportsman Deer Hunt numbers show slight increase

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Harvests from Tennessee’s first Young Sportsman Deer Hunt of the 2013-14 season were very similar to the fall of 2012, showing a slight increase. The youth hunt was held across the state on October 26th-27th.

The young sportsmen harvested 8,484 deer in Tennessee’s 95 counties. The number is up 150 deer from 2012’s 8,334. [Read more]

Clarification made for Unit B Muzzleloader Deer Hunting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is making a clarification to the muzzleloader bag limit for Unit B deer management counties.

The Unit B Muzzleloader Hunt Table on page 28 of the 2011 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide indicates the bag limit is one deer. The table should read one antlerless deer per hunter. [Read more]

Muzzleloader Season Starts November 5th

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee’s youth hunters posted a slight increase over 2010 after a busy weekend of deer hunting across the state in the Young Sportsman Hunt.

The youth hunters (ages 6-16) harvested 8,831 deer, an increase of 13 deer over the same weekend last year. It is also an increase of 629 over the 2009 totals as reported by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

For the second straight year, Giles County was the top county for the youth hunt with 284, also an increase of 13 from its 271 total of last year. Weakley County was again second with 234 and Fayette County moved to third from fourth from a year ago with 226. Henry County was close behind in fourth. Lawrence and Hardeman County each surpassed the 200-harvest number with 202 and 201, respectively. [Read more]
