Jesus was Born Christmas Day

December 25, 2014

Written by Dinah Maria Mulock

Jesus in the mangerGod rest ye, merry gentlemen; let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ, our Saviour, was born on Christmas-day.

The dawn rose red o’er Bethlehem, the stars shone through the gray,
When Jesus Christ, our Saviour, was born on Christmas-day. [Read more]

Devotional from Brother Shepherd for November 27th

November 27, 2011

Written by Brother Shepherd

JesusI’m always intrigued by the story of Jesus as a boy in Luke 2. In the latter part of that chapter we find that Joseph and Mary have taken Jesus to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover Feast.

The scriptures tell us that Jesus was 12 years old. After the Feast was over, Joseph and Mary were traveling back home with their kinsman and acquaintances and they found they had left Jesus in Jerusalem.

All the Leaves have fallen

January 23, 2011

Written by Brother Shepherd

Winter SceneWinter can be a drab time of the year, the leafs have left the trees, the grass has died, no crops in the fields. It is as nature has left and gone south.

Some times we fell all alone. That’s kind of the way I fell today. I’m setting on the couch, Hersey, our dog, is sleeping here with me. The TV is off. All is quit I fell like the world has stop and let me off.

Winter can be a time to be hopeful because we know that summer is coming, it always has and it always will.

Even though life can be like the winter sometimes, we who believe in Jesus have hope. Christ is coming some day. He promised us the Holy Spirit( the Comforter) now. I am glad that know matter how I feel God is always with me.

God’s word is true and so powerful ain’t that great!

John 14:16-18

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
KJV

Jesus Sowing SeedThe other morning I was reading in the book of Lamentations 1:1-3. This brought to mind an old saying that I’ve heard all of my life, “What goes around comes around.”

The Bible tells us that we reap what we sow. I was reading theses verses from the Living Bible this morning, “Jerusalem’s streets, once thronged with people, are silent now. Like a widow broken with grief, she sits alone in her mourning. She, once queen of nations, is now a slave. [Read more]

Were you ever afraid of the darkness when you were a child?

Jesus In 1939 my Dad built a house in the Woodlawn Community. I was 4 years old at that time and my room was upstairs. I can remember lying in bed at night and because we had no air conditioning the windows were open and I could hear the sounds of the night.

There wasn’t much traffic on the road and the night owls and bobcats would scare me and I thought something bad was going to get me, but when Mama would come and turn on my light the darkness would flee and I could see that I was safe. [Read more]

Morning SunriseGood morning! Good morning! Good morning! “It is a day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” There is an old song that says, “Every Day with Jesus is Sweeter than the Day Before”. I wonder sometimes why that is true and I’ve come to the conclusion that if I learn a little bit more about Jesus and His character and His love for me that each day does get a little more sweeter.

In a few days my wife will be celebrating her birthday and I might add she gets sweeter each day, (now that ought to get me in good with her). [Read more]

Children’s Faith

September 19, 2010

A Devotional By Brother Shepherd

Jesus speaks to childrenIn the scriptures in Luke 9:48, Jesus speaks about children. That verse reads this way in the KJV, “And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.” Jesus speaks about children in a lot of different places and how we are supposed to be like children.

It can be a little confusing a lot of the time, but when he speaks, he’s talking about faith. If you ever observe a child and their parents, a child usually believes everything their parents tell them because they love and trust their parents. Christ wants us to love God the same way! Each day we should trust God and live the way he wants us to and that pleases the Father.

I have found in my own life that I am happier, more content, and satisfied when I trust my Heavenly Father. As this verse tells us that, we should receive a child in his name. He is telling us that we have a duty to less mature Christians than we are and that duty is to show them our child like faith as we trust God. An old song that some of the lyrics say, Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus. Let’s all live to please our Heavenly Father.

Believers and Unbelievers

August 1, 2010

A Devotional By Brother Shepherd

Colosseum in RomeWell, here it is Sunday again. I was reading in the scriptures in Acts 28. The Apostle Paul was preaching at Rome in that 28th chapter, verse 24 and it reads, “And some believed the things that were spoken, and some not.” This scripture says there were some there that became believers and some remained unbelievers: two different categories.

One group joined one category by what they believed and the other joined that category by what they didn’t believe. The Bible says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.” I hope you believe because where you spend eternity, (Heaven or Hell) depends on it.

This is Bro. Shep asking you to think about it.

How do I know that I know Jesus is the son of God?

July 18, 2010

A Devotional By Brother Shepherd

Jesus Son of GodIn the scriptures in John 5:16-23 Jesus claims to be the son of God. In verse 19 in the Living Bible Translation it reads, “Jesus replied, I assure you the son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the son also does.” Sometimes I ask myself a question. How do I know that I know Jesus is the son of God? My mother told me so, my Sunday school teachers told me so, my Preacher told me so, and the Bible tells me so, but I know that Jesus Christ is the son of God because He changed my life where nothing else could.

To me that is a miracle that only God could do. I believe it was David or Zachariah that said Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good, He came to make dead people live. I hope and pray that you have received the miracle of being born again. [Read more]

Salvation

July 17, 2010

A Devotional By Brother Shepherd

As the Interim Pastor of Pugh Flat Baptist Church of Cadiz, KY my daily travels take me in many directions and I talk to a lot of people and I hear a lot of different ideas about salvation and how to obtain it. With all of the different denominations and beliefs there is it can be quite confusing. I have found it best to go to the Bible and find out about salvation and how to obtain it.

This is what Jesus spoke in John 14:6 in regards to salvation and “Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.” What does it mean to go to the Father through Jesus? Jesus also spoke that our faith in Him is the way to eternal life. [Read more]
