TWRA announces 2019-20 Gun Hunting Season for Deer to Open November 23rd

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announces that the Tennessee’s 2019-20 statewide gun hunting season for deer opens Saturday, November 23rd. Deer gun season has the traditional opening date of the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving.

During gun season, sportsmen may also use muzzleloader or archery equipment. In the newly-created Unit CWD, guns have been permitted since the start of muzzleloader-archery season on November 9th. The season will continue through January 5th, 2020. The second Young Sportsman Hunt is January 11th-12th, 2020.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Tennessee’s statewide three-day archery private lands only/antlered only deer season will be held August 23rd-25th, 2019. In addition, newly-created muzzleloader/archery, antlered only hunt for the new Unit CWD for private lands and selected public lands will take place.

Unit CWD hunting regulations only apply to CWD positive counties of Fayette County, Hardeman County, and Madison County and CWD high-risk counties of Chester County, Haywood County, McNairy County, Shelby County, and Tipton County.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announces thats sportsmen will have the opportunity to participate in Tennessee’s inaugural statewide archery, private lands only/antlered only deer season from August 24th-26th, 2018.

The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission voted at its May meeting to establish this short season to give hunters an opportunity to harvest a buck with velvet-covered antlers.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee residents are allowed to hunt without a license on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 which coincides with the opening day of squirrel season says the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

In addition to the opening of squirrel season, it will be the middle day of the statewide three-day archery private lands only/antlered only deer season. This is the first year for this type of deer season.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRATullahoma, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the state’s 2016-17 hunting seasons at its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Arnold Air Force Base Gossick Leadership Center.

The state’s hunting seasons are annually established each year during the TWFC’s May meeting. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency made its recommendations during the April meeting. Additional recommendations were made by commission members.

TWRA reports close to 165,000 Deer Harvested during 2014-2015 Seasons

4,473 Deer Harvested in Henry County

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Close to 165,000 deer were harvested in Tennessee during the recently completed 2014-15 seasons according to data gathered by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The statewide gun season concluded January 4th and the youth hunt followed on January 10th-11th. The harvest numbers range from the start of archery season on September 27th, 2014 through the final youth hunt. [Read more]

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The second of the season’s youth hunts, scheduled for January 12th-13th, will conclude the 2012-13 deer hunting season in Tennessee.

Youth, ages 6-16 years of age may participate. The young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age who must remain in a position to take control of the hunting device.

The accompanying adult must comply with fluorescent orange regulations, as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youths may be accompanied nu a single qualifying adult. [Read more]

October through December Worst Time For Deer-Related Crashes

The Tennessee Highway PatrolNashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol cautions motorists to watch out for deer on or near the roadways this fall season. An increase in deer-related crashes is likely during the months of October through December due to deer mating and hunting season.

“Deer pose a danger to motorists throughout the year, but especially in the fall,” THP Colonel Tracy Trott said. “November is typically the worst month for deer-related crashes. It is important to exercise caution, slow down and stay alert in areas where deer are populated.”

Tennessee’s Gun Season for Deer opens November 20th

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Deer hunters will take to the woods Saturday, November 20th for the traditional opening of Tennessee’s first segment of gun season in all three of the state’s deer hunting units, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

Again this year, the season dates for all three units (A, B & L) will be the same. The segments are November 20th – December 5th and December 18th – January 9th, 2011.

Hunters may harvest one antlered buck per day until the statewide bag limit of three is reached, including those deer harvested during archery and muzzleloader seasons. An antlered buck is a buck with an antler at least three inches long. [Read more]
