Cheap Crude Oil Paves Way for Significant Savings at the Pump

August 26, 2019

AAAWashington, D.C. – AAA says when filling-up at the pump this fall, the majority of U.S. motorists will find savings of potentially more than 25-cents/gallon compared to this summer.

The national gas price average, which is already 15-cents cheaper than just five weeks ago, is poised to continue pushing less expensive due to several factors, including less expensive crude oil prices, the drop-off in gasoline demand after Labor Day and the move to winter-blend gasoline.

AAA Forecasts National Gas Price Average to Land at $2.40 or Lower This Fall. (AAA)

AAA says In-Vehicle Infotainment Systems Especially Distracting to Older Drivers

July 28, 2019

AAAWashington, D.C. – AAA says new in-vehicle infotainment technology needs to stop distracting older drivers. It has the potential to increase their comfort and extend mobility but for now, it’s mainly distracting them.

On average, older drivers (ages 55-75) removed their eyes and attention from the road for more than eight seconds longer than younger drivers (ages 21-36) when performing simple tasks like programming navigation or tuning the radio using in-vehicle infotainment technology, according to new research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

According to AAA, More than 80 Percent of Older Drivers Aren’t Talking About Driving Safety

August 26, 2018

Auto Club Group (AAA)

Of the small percentage of families who do have the often difficult conversation, 15 percent do so after a crash or traffic infraction has occurred- which could be too late. Due to their fragility, older drivers are at greater risk of death and injury if involved in a crash.

Drowsy Driving: Don’t Be Asleep at the Wheel

February 8, 2018

AAAWashington, D.C. – The most in-depth drowsy driving research ever conducted in the U.S. using footage of everyday drivers found that the percentage of crashes involving drowsiness is nearly eight times higher than federal estimates indicate, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

The difficulty in detecting drowsiness following a crash makes drowsy driving one of the most underreported traffic safety issues. The new research provides an unprecedented analysis of in-vehicle dashcam video from more than 700 crashes, confirming that the danger of drowsy driving soars above official estimates.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that driver drowsiness was involved in an estimated 1.4% of all police-reported crashes nationwide in years 2011–2015. (AAA)
