Land Between the Lakes Facilities Re-Open for 2012 Season

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area begins its 2012 operations on Thursday March 1st, by opening several popular visitor attractions.
The Homeplace, Woodlands Nature Station, Golden Pond Planetarium, and North & South Welcome Stations open their doors March 1st, along with Hillman Ferry and Piney Campgrounds. The Homeplace, Nature Station, and North & South Welcome Stations will be open Wednesday through Sunday during March, and then open seven days a week beginning April 1st. [Read more]
Land Between the Lakes Quota Turkey Hunt Applications Deadline Nears

Golden Pond, KY – The application period for the spring turkey-hunting season at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) is drawing to a close. The deadline for hunters to apply online for a quota permit is February 29th, 2012. Hunters will be selected for the available quota permits by computer drawing.
Three quota hunts in both Kentucky and Tennessee during the first portion of the season require a prior application. In Kentucky, quota hunts include a two-day youth hunt for hunters (under age 16 on the Kentucky portion of LBL) March 31st-April 1st, a two-day hunt April 5th-6th, and a two-day hunt April 14th-15th. Land Between the Lakes encourages Alternatives to Fenton Boat Launch Area

Golden Pond, KY – While the Fenton Boat Launch Area is closed, Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area encourages boaters to substitute Sugar Bay Backcountry Area north of Fenton and Redd Hollow Backcountry Area south of Fenton for boat launching.
There are currently 10 boat ramps on LBL that provide public access to Kentucky Lake–three in Tennessee and seven in Kentucky. Sugar Bay and Redd Hollow are the closest alternative ramps to Fenton. [Read more]
Land Between the Lakes Hosting 2nd Annual Small Business Seminar for Local Communities

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) will host a sustainable tourism business seminar on Saturday, February 18th, 2012. Business owners interested in improving their current business strategies are encouraged to attend. The seminar will be held at the Golden Pond Visitor Center from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
The cost is $20.00 per person and includes lunch. Early registration is $15.00 through February 6th. Golden Pond, KY – Applications will be available online February 1st, for the first six hunting days of the 2012 Turkey Season at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area. Quota hunts not only provide unique recreational opportunities within the LBL region, they help maintain a healthy turkey population.
Three quota hunts in both Kentucky and Tennessee during the first portion of the season require a prior application. In Kentucky, quota hunts include a two-day youth hunt for hunters (under age 16 on the Kentucky portion of LBL) March 31st-April 1st, a two-day hunt April 5th-6th, and a two-day hunt April 14th-15th. In Tennessee, quota hunts include a two-day youth hunt (for hunters 6-16 years old on the Tennessee portion) April 7th-8th, a two-day hunt April 9th-10th, and a two-day hunt April 14th-15th. Land Between the Lakes Offers “Fort Henry 150th Anniversary Program and Walk”

Land Between The Lakes Bison Auction Set

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area has scheduled their annual Bison Auction for Saturday, January 28th, 2012.
The USDA Forest Service manages two herds of American Bison at LBL. Due to annual reproduction, there is a need to remove surplus bison from each herd. Thinning of the herd is necessary to sustain optimal habitat conditions and animal health.
Land Between the Lakes Educational Field Trip Grants Available

Golden Pond, KY – Are you an educator interested in planning a field trip to experience the Land Between The Lakes (LBL) “outdoor classroom”? If so, now is the time to apply for LBL’s Educational Field Trip Grant for the 2012-2013 school year. The deadline for the field trip grant application is April 30th, 2012.
LBL’s Educational Field Trip Grant is available to public school districts within 100 miles of LBL. The grant assists schools in covering costs for transportation, facility admission fees, program costs, and dorm rental during the 2012-2013 school year. The grant amount awarded to schools is based on the school’s matching funds, number of students, and LBL programs the school plans to participate in. [Read more]
