Nashville, TN – With less than a month away, bicycle enthusiasts across the state are encouraged to register for the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee, slated for September 10th-17th. In its 22nd year, this year’s seven-day ride will feature a loop through some of Middle Tennessee’s most stunning landscapes.
Originating at Montgomery Bell State Park, this year’s route will feature a combination of rolling hills, valleys and some flat terrain. Cyclists can expect to experience beautiful, rural Tennessee scenery and interesting back roads along the way, including the Natchez Trace Parkway and visits to several Tennessee State Parks such as Dunbar Cave. Governor Haslam Announces Enhancement Grant for Town of Camden

Grant to Fund Downtown Improvements Project Phase III
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and TDOT Commissioner John Schroer are pleased to announce the award of a $352,052 transportation enhancement grant to the town of Camden for Phase III of the Downtown Improvements Project.
Phase III of the Downtown Improvements Project includes the construction and reconstruction of sidewalks along East Main Street, Church Street, Forrest Avenue and East Lake. New decorative lighting and landscaping will also be installed in the project area. The improvements are designed to enhance the character of downtown Camden while creating a more pedestrian oriented environment. [Read more]

State ranks 5th in CNBC study
Nashville, TN – For the second year in a row, Tennessee’s transportation system ranks as one of the best in the nation, according to CNBC’s 2011 study “America’s Top States for Business.” The business news network scored all 50 states on 40 measures of competitiveness, including the vitality of each state’s transportation system.
Tennessee’s overall score ranks the state as the fifth best in America in the category of “Transportation and Infrastructure.” [Read more]
Construction Won’t Slow July 4th Travelers in Tennessee

No Construction Related Lane Closures on Tennessee Highways July 1st – 5th
Nashville, TN – Road construction won’t slow traffic across Tennessee this July 4th holiday weekend. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at noon on Friday, July 1st, 2011 through 6:00am on Tuesday, July 5th to provide maximum roadway capacity for holiday travelers.
“There will be increased traffic on Tennessee’s interstates and state routes during the July 4th holiday period,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “Suspending lane closures over this busy weekend is one way to ensure that travelers don’t face construction-related delays as they travel across our state.” [Read more]
Tennessee Receives Bronze Award from League of American Bicyclists

State Rankings Recognize TDOT’s Efforts to Be More Bicycle Friendly
Nashville, TN – The League of American Bicyclists has named Tennessee a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly State in its fourth annual BFS rankings. The award recognizes the state for its collaboration with local agencies and bicycle advocates, efforts to provide safe routes to school for children who bicycle or walk, and commitment to safety and accommodation of all users.

Governor & Commissioner Identify Transportation Projects in TDOT’s Region Four for Funding

Projects to be funded through Bridge Bonding and Traditional Funds
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Transportation Commissioner John Schroer today released the three-year transportation program, which includes the completion of several major strategic corridor projects and the state’s Better Bridges bonding program.
The three year program includes $1.7 billion for highways and bridges to fund more than 152 individual project phases in 59 Tennessee counties. The proposal, which has been presented to the Tennessee General Assembly, includes significant highway and bridge projects in TDOT’s Region Two. [Read more]

Billboards Designed to Make Motorists Think Twice Before Racing Trains
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is launching a new safety campaign aimed at eliminating tragic collisions, fatalities and injuries at the state’s 2,815 public at-grade railroad crossings. New billboards and posters will be installed near high traffic railroad crossings across the state to remind drivers and pedestrians to make safe decisions at crossings and around railroad tracks.
New 2011 Tennessee State Maps Now Available

No Lane Closures on Interstates and State Routes from December 24th to January 3rd

Nashville, TN – Holiday travelers should enjoy a smooth drive through Tennessee during the busy Christmas and New Year’s travel holidays. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is once again halting all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state.
No temporary lane closures will be allowed for construction on Tennessee roadways from 8:00am on Friday, December 24 through 8:00am on Monday, January 3rd. [Read more]
