Nashville, TN – Holiday travelers should enjoy a smooth drive through Tennessee during the busy Christmas and New Year’s travel holidays. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is once again halting all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state.
No temporary lane closures will be allowed for construction on Tennessee roadways beginning at noon on Friday, December 23rd, 2011 through 6:00am on Monday, January 2nd, 2012. [Read more]

Preliminary Figure Mark Fewest Fatalities on Record
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced a preliminary figure that indicated six people were killed during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, compared to 16 fatalities during last year’s Thanksgiving Day holiday period.
If the 2011 preliminary number holds true, it will mark the lowest number of fatalities on record during the Thanksgiving holiday. Previously, the fewest number of vehicular fatalities was seven, which occurred during the 1983 Thanksgiving Day period.

State Troopers will strictly enforce Seat Belt Usage
Nashville, TN – Sixteen people lost their lives on Tennessee roadways during last year’s Thanksgiving Day Holiday period. That’s why the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be hitting the roads, along with millions of Americans, in a high-visibility, safe driving enforcement campaign for the 2011 Thanksgiving Day Holiday.
Beginning at 6:00pm, Wednesday, November 23rd through midnight Sunday, November 27th, State Troopers will saturate the interstate systems and high-crash corridors across Tennessee, placing an emphasis on impaired driving, seat belt usage, and traffic law compliance.

Nashville, TN – Thanksgiving travelers will enjoy a smooth drive through Tennessee again this year during this busy travel holiday. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will halt all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state. All construction related lane closures will be stopped beginning at noon on Wednesday, November 23rd until 6:00am Monday, November 28th.

Henry County Agencies Receive $29,820.00
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner John Schroer today announced more than $16.2 million to support highway safety in Tennessee.
The funds support the mission of the Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) to save lives and reduce injuries on Tennessee roadways through leadership, innovation, coordination and program support in partnership with numerous public and private organizations.

Design Incorporates Three Stars and Red, White & Blue of Tennessee State Flag
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) unveils a new logo that provides continuity with the state of Tennessee and other state agencies. The logo incorporates the three stars as well as the official red, white, and blue colors of the Tennessee state flag.

TDOT Announces Aeronautics Grant for Henry County Airport

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced today that a state aeronautics grant totaling $40,000 has been approved for the Henry County Airport. The State provided $36,000 while the local portion was $4,000. The aeronautics grant is for infrastructure and other improvements.

In its 22nd year, this year’s seven-day ride will feature a loop through some of Middle Tennessee’s most stunning landscapes.
Originating at Montgomery Bell State Park, this year’s route will feature a combination of rolling hills, valleys and some flat terrain. Grant to Fund Downtown Improvements Project Phase III
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and TDOT Commissioner John Schroer are pleased to announce the award of a $352,052 transportation enhancement grant to the town of Camden for Phase III of the Downtown Improvements Project.
Phase III of the Downtown Improvements Project includes the construction and reconstruction of sidewalks along East Main Street, Church Street, Forrest Avenue and East Lake. New decorative lighting and landscaping will also be installed in the project area. The improvements are designed to enhance the character of downtown Camden while creating a more pedestrian oriented environment. [Read more]
