Rate Decreases in 79 counties, Increases in 12, and remains the same in Four

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for November 2011, released today, show that the rate decreased in 79 counties, increased in 12 counties, and four counties remained the same.

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for November fell to 9.1 percent, down from the October revised rate of 9.5. The national unemployment rate for November 2011 was 8.6 percent, a decrease of 0.4 percentage point from the October rate.

Decrease in Traffic Fatalities Over Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

Preliminary Figure Mark Fewest Fatalities on Record

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced a preliminary figure that indicated six people were killed during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, compared to 16 fatalities during last year’s Thanksgiving Day holiday period.

If the 2011 preliminary number holds true, it will mark the lowest number of fatalities on record during the Thanksgiving holiday. Previously, the fewest number of vehicular fatalities was seven, which occurred during the 1983 Thanksgiving Day period.

Department Reminds Citizens That Certain Driver Service Centers Will Be Open On First Saturday Of December For Voter ID Issuance Only

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced Monday that during the month of November it had more than doubled the number of photo identifications issued for voting purposes since the end of October.

As of November 28th, the department had issued 6,566 photo IDs for voting purposes, compared to the 2,385 issued as of October 31st. A new state law will require a federal or state-issued photo ID to vote starting in 2012. The law also requires the Department of Safety and Homeland Security to issue photo IDs for voting purposes at no charge. [Read more]

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for October fell to 9.6 percent, down from the September revised rate of 9.8. The national unemployment rate for October 2011 was 9.0 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the September rate.

Department of Safety and Homeland Security issues nearly 2,400 Photo IDs for Voting purposes since July 1st

Department reminds Citizens that certain Driver Service Centers will be open on the First Saturday of November for Voter ID Issuance Only

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced Monday that as of October 24th it had issued 2,385 forms of photo identification for voting purposes since a new law went into effect making on July 1st photo IDs for voting purposes available at no charge.

The number of photo IDs issued for voting purposes includes original photo identification cards (for voters who had never been issued a driver license or photo ID and were not already in the Department’s database) and non-photo driver licenses converted into photo driver licenses. (Drivers in Tennessee age 60 and older may opt to carry a non-photo driver license.) [Read more]

Nashville, TN – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for September 2011, released today, show that the rate increased in 51 counties, decreased in 32 counties, and 12 counties remained the same.

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for September was 9.8 percent, up from the August revised rate of 9.7. The national unemployment rate for September 2011 was 9.1 percent, unchanged from the August revised rate.

Rate decreases in 90 counties, and increases in five

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for July 2011, released today show that the rate decreased in 90 counties. Five counties increased including Houston, Obion, Overton, Smith and Weakley.

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for July was 9.8 percent, unchanged from the June revised rate. The national unemployment rate for July 2011 was 9.1 percent, down from the June revised rate of 9.2 percent.

The unemployment rate in July for Henry County was 12.0 percent, down 0.7 percent from the June rate of 12.7 percent.

TN Department of Safety and Homeland Security Announces New Driver Service Center Business Hours

New Hours Effective August 15th, 2011

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced the implementation of new business hours for its 49 Driver Service Centers across the state. Effective Monday, August 15th, all Driver Service Centers will operate during the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm. Monday through Friday.

The change comes as part of the department’s top-to-bottom review, which aims to provide efficient, customer-friendly service to every Tennessean. [Read more]

Rate Increases in 91 Counties and Decreases in four

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development

Nashville, TN – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for June 2011, released today show that the rate increased in 91 counties. The four counties that decreased were DeKalb, Hawkins, Moore and Smith.

Tennessee’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for June was 9.8 percent, up slightly from the May revised rate of 9.7. The national unemployment rate for June 2011 was 9.2 percent, up from the May revised rate of 9.1 percent. Henry County had an unemployument rate of 12.7 percent for June, up 0.9 percent from May’s 11.9 percent unemployment.

August 9th is the Deadline for Tennesseans to Register with FEMA

Federal Emergency Management Agency - FEMANashville, TN – Tennesseans who suffered losses due to severe spring weather have about six weeks remaining to apply for assistance. August 9th is the last day the Federal Emergency Management Agency will accept applications for individual assistance.

State and federal officials continue to encourage anyone with damage or other losses in the disaster-designated counties to register. “You may think you don’t need assistance, but you could later have disaster related losses,” said TEMA Director James H. Bassham “Registration with FEMA is free. It’s better to get your name in the system before the August 9th deadline. After that date, it will be too late.” [Read more]
