AAA says Gas Prices in Tennessee drop slightly

June 5, 2018

Clarksville-Montgomery County continues to have Third Lowest Gas Prices in Tennessee

AAATampa, FL The summer driving season is in full swing, and it opened with the most expensive gas prices in four years. Fortunately, those prices at the pump are beginning to trickle lower.

The national average price of $2.95 per gallon is 2 cents less than last week. The discount at the pump is begin driven by strong declines in the price of oil – which influences about half the price of gasoline.

Tennessee Gas Prices increase 5 Cents

Clarksville-Montgomery County has Third Lowest Gas Prices in Tennessee

AAANashville, TN As the national average continues to push toward $3.00 a gallon, gas prices in the southeastern United States are among the lowest in the country. Sunday’s national average of $2.92 is 5 cents more than a week ago and 57 cents more than this time last year.

As of Sunday, gas prices averaged above $3.00/gal in 14 states. The majority of them are in the northeast and western United States. Rising crude costs, switchover to more-expensive-to-produce gasoline by the federal deadline on June 1st, tighter supplies and robust gasoline demand continue to help lift pump prices across the nation.

The state average is the same as last week, and 22 cents less than the national average. However, Tennessee motorists are paying 47 cents more per gallon than this time last year.

The rising price of oil may drag gas prices higher this week. Oil prices reached a new 2018 high, on the belief that President Trump may pull out of the Iran Nuclear Deal. Such a move would likely reinstate sanctions, resulting in reduced global supply, and higher fuel prices.

Tennessee Gas Prices Drop, Higher Prices are Coming

Energy prices increase as refineries conduct maintenance

AAANashville, TN Tennessee Gas Prices steadily declined during the past couple of weeks, but that downward trend is likely coming to an end. Refineries are entering their seasonal maintenance period, which can place significant upward pressure on prices at the pump.

Historically, maintenance season has caused gas prices to jump 15-75 cents from February to June. Last year, pump prices only rose 15 cents during that time, because oil prices struggled to maintain strength. When gasoline jumped 60-70 cents in 2015 and ’16, oil had risen $15.00-$20.00 per barrel.
