Understanding the dangers associated with illegal or improperly used/manufactured fireworks can prevent severe injuries, disfigurement, or even death.

Illegal devices are not fireworks, but are often manufactured and used during the fireworks season. These devices are made up of explosive compositions that are typically extremely sensitive to heat, shock, electrostatic discharge and friction that may initiate unexpectedly causing serious injury or death.

Bad Boy Off-Road Utility Vehicles recalled by Textron Specialized Vehicles Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death

U.S. Consumer Product Safety CommissionWashington, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Textron Specialized Vehicles, Inc., of Augusta, Georgia, are announcing the recall of about 1,100 Bad Boy off-road utility vehicles. As a result of the vehicles rolling over, a 14-year-old male passenger died in Toombs County, Georgia in 2014 and, in a separate rollover incident, an adult male operator suffered a serious leg injury.

The vehicles lack seat belts, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the operator and passengers in the event of a vehicle accident.

CPSC reports Lumber Liquidators Agrees to Not Resume Sales of Inventory of Chinese-Made Laminate Flooring

Lumber Liquidators To Continue Comprehensive Testing Program As Part of a Recall to Test.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety CommissionWashington, D.C. – In cooperation with Lumber Liquidators, of Toano, VA, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing that Lumber Liquidators has agreed to not resume sales of laminate wood flooring previously imported from China.

The company also agreed to continue conducting a comprehensive testing program as part of a recall program that affects consumers who purchased Chinese-made laminate flooring from Lumber Liquidators during a three-year period.

In homes where the Chinese-made laminate flooring is found to emit elevated levels of formaldehyde, the company will provide any required remediation.

Laminated floors from 1,300 homes tested to date were below remediation guideline level; affected consumers encouraged to request free test kit.

Walmart Recalls Rival Electric Griddles Due to Shock Hazard

U.S. Consumer Product Safety CommissionWashington, D.C. – U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports Walmart recalls Rival brand electric griddles with model number XJ-14207.

The griddles are black and measure 20 inches long by 10.5 inches wide.

“Walmart” and the model number are printed on a label molded into the bottom of the griddle. “Rival” is printed on the outside edge of the griddle and on the griddle’s temperature dial.

A child can drown in as little as 2 inches of water, and it happens quickly and silently. Every one of these tragedies is preventable.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns consumers about hidden drowning hazards for small children in and around the home. Too many deaths are associated with common household products.

This recall involves Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHP) sold under the Bryant, Carrier and Fast brand names. Recalled units include those with original power cords and those that received a supplemental power cord as part of the 2007 recall.

CPSC Chairman Reminds Families to Follow 10 Simple Steps to Pool Safely During Independence Day Weekend

U.S. Consumer Product Safety CommissionWashington, D.C. – In anticipation of family gatherings around public and residential pools during the Independence Day holiday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) Pool Safely campaign is urging parents and children to follow 10 steps to stay safer when spending time in or near the water.

According to media reports and data compiled by the USA Swimming Foundation, at least 152 children younger than 15 fatally drowned in a swimming pool or spa this year, with at least 86 of those fatal drownings happening since Memorial Day weekend.
