AAA reports Gas Prices on the Rise

April 3, 2017

AAATampa, FL All signs point to higher gas prices. Gasoline demand is surging while inventories are beginning to slip. Meanwhile, refineries are getting rid of excess winter blend gasoline as they continue to push summer blend fuel into the market, which is more expensive to produce.

Today the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $2.32, an increase of 3 cents from last week, up a few fractions of a cent from one month ago, and 26 cents more than this time last year.

Declining gasoline inventories normally trigger a rise in gas prices.

The History of Memorial Day

May 26, 2014

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

U.S. Department of Veterans AffairsWashington, D.C. – Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5th, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30th.

It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.

The first large observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.
