Land Between the Lakes Quota Turkey Hunt Applications Available Online February 1st-29th

Golden Pond, KY – Applications will be available online February 1st, for the first six hunting days of the 2012 Turkey Season at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area. Quota hunts not only provide unique recreational opportunities within the LBL region, they help maintain a healthy turkey population.
Three quota hunts in both Kentucky and Tennessee during the first portion of the season require a prior application. In Kentucky, quota hunts include a two-day youth hunt for hunters (under age 16 on the Kentucky portion of LBL) March 31st-April 1st, a two-day hunt April 5th-6th, and a two-day hunt April 14th-15th. Land Between the Lakes Educational Field Trip Grants Available

Golden Pond, KY – Are you an educator interested in planning a field trip to experience the Land Between The Lakes (LBL) “outdoor classroom”? If so, now is the time to apply for LBL’s Educational Field Trip Grant for the 2012-2013 school year. The deadline for the field trip grant application is April 30th, 2012.
LBL’s Educational Field Trip Grant is available to public school districts within 100 miles of LBL. The grant assists schools in covering costs for transportation, facility admission fees, program costs, and dorm rental during the 2012-2013 school year. The grant amount awarded to schools is based on the school’s matching funds, number of students, and LBL programs the school plans to participate in. [Read more]

General admission to the Elk & Bison Prairie will be free and Wranglers Campground will also be waiving day-use riding fees.

Special Red Deer Hunting Season in Claiborne County, January 14th-22nd

Nashville, TN – A special red deer hunting season is set to be held in Claiborne County on January 14th-22nd. The special red deer hunting season was established last spring in an effort to manage the small population of the exotic deer.
At the December meeting of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission, an amendment to the proclamation allows for an expansion to the original area.
Last spring, in an effort to eliminate a small population of exotic red deer in Claiborne County, a two-week red deer season was established after the white-tailed deer season ends. [Read more]
