Winter Hike at Stillhouse Hollow Falls State Natural Area Slated for December 10th

Nashville, TN – The Department of Environment and Conservation’s Resource Management Division will host a guided winter hike at Stillhouse Hollow Falls State Natural Area in Maury County on Saturday, December 10th. Participants are asked to meet at the natural area parking lot off U.S. Highway 43 at 10:00am, which is located approximately 21 miles southwest of Columbia and three miles northeast of Summertown.
Known for its beautiful falls, the 90-acre natural area sits on the Western Highland Rim in the Duck River watershed. The geology of this region creates scenic natural features such as seeps, flat shale-bottom streams and waterfalls – both small and large – which help shape the region’s dissected topography. Land Between the Lakes announces Winter 2011 Eagle Viewing Trips

Back by popular demand, LBL hosts a weekend of river cruises January 14th-15th, and a special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day cruise January 16th, for up close views of the eagles from the water. [Read more]
A Glorious Pound Cake for the Holidays

Land Between the Lakes “No Hunting” Zones open to Archery Deer Hunting

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will open certain areas typically marked as “No Hunting” zones for archery deer hunting December 1st through January 16th. Hunters are encouraged to harvest deer without antlers in these areas to reduce deer populations.
Areas open to archery hunting include Hillman Ferry Campground, Piney Campground, and Brandon Spring Group Center. Archery hunting will also be permitted in the South Nature Watch Demonstration Area across The Trace from South Welcome Station, in the eastern portion of Hunt Area 16. [Read more]
Land Between the Lakes Offers New Program on “Life During the Civil War”

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will be adding a new Civil War themed program in honor of the sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.
The new program, “Civil War Comes to The Homeplace” will be held at The Homeplace, a living history farm on the Tennessee portion of LBL, Saturday, December 3rd, from 10:00am-4:00pm. [Read more]
Land Between the Lakes Small Game Hunting Seasons Begins

Golden Pond, KY – Small game hunting season opens at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area beginning December 1st.
All hunters (age 16 and older) must have an LBL Hunter Use Permit, an appropriate state license, and observe applicable state laws and LBL rules regarding hunting zones and safety precautions. [Read more]

AEDC WMA Units 1 & 2 December Permits to go on sale November 23rd

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Wildlife Management Area units 1 & 2 first come, first serve December deer permits will go on sale November 23rd at 8:00am (CDT).
Permits can be purchased at any TWRA license agent or through the internet at www.tnwildlife.org. Hunters who purchase the permit are reminded that they will need to retain their receipt. The receipt will serve as the permit. No phone sales will be accepted. [Read more]
