Carroll Countian promoted to Colonel; assumes new position
Nashville, TN – Tommy H. Baker, a native of Huntingdon and veteran of 30 years in the military, was promoted to Colonel in the Tennessee Army National Guard February 2nd during ceremonies at National Guard Headquarters in Nashville.
Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee Adjutant General, addressed the Baker family and a large crowd of Col. Baker’s military friends and well wishers before promoting Baker and officially affixing his silver-eagle shoulder boards.

Col. Baker was also named by Gen. Haston as new Director of Logistics for the Tennessee National Guard. In this capacity he is responsible for acquiring, distributing and maintaining equipment, supplies and services for National Guard units and individual Soldiers across Tennessee.
Baker is a 1981 graduate of Huntingdon High School and married to the former Camille Arnold. They have two children: Hillari, a kindergarten teacher at Lakewood Elementary School in Paris, and Cody, a junior at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. Cody also serves as an Infantryman in Troop A (-), 1st Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
His parents are Harold and Roberta Baker of Huntingdon.
Col. Baker has attended the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, US Army Command & General Staff College and is currently enrolled in the U.S. Army War College.
He has served two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards and decorations include: the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award) and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
